Aquatic adaption

Andrew swims underwater without trouble.
Held by: Andrew Petrelli,
Michael Phelps
Ability to: Hold one's breath extensively and swim inhumanly fast

Aquatic adaption is the ability to either breath underwater or hold one's breath for an extended period of time, and to swim at speeds well beyond that of a normal human being.

Characters

Limits

Andrew Petrelli

Andrew Petrelli is able to stay underwater for at least twenty minutes without needed to return to the surface for air. It is not shown whether he is breathing underwater like a fish, or holding his breath like an aquatic mammal. In addition, he is shown to swim at speeds much faster than a normal human being, able to cross an Olympic-sized pool in only a few seconds.

Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps has been recorded at speeds over 2 meter per second and distances as far as 400 meters in a single stretch. He can also hold his breath for well over a minute, though sometimes for the wrong reason. He has won fourteen Olympic gold metals for his aquatic feats and has broken five world records.

Examples

  • Andrew Petrelli swam in the White House pool, spending more than twenty minutes underwater, swimming at inhuman speeds.
  • Michael Phelps swam in the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics, winning a combined total of fourteen gold metals.

Notes

  • The ability is a subset of the powers of D.C. Comics hero Aquaman.[1]
