In chapter 1 of The Civilian, Rachel visits the bar and notes that it is normally a very crowded place at nighttime. However, during the daytime, it is closed and Rachel leaves.

In chapter 2 of The Civilian, Rachel arrives at the bar and talks to Smokey, who is drunk. He tells her about his missing son, and his refusal to believe that his other son, Cooper, had anything to do with his disappearance.

In chapter 3 of The Civilian, Rachel arrives at the bar, but Smokey refuses to talk to her, blaming her for Toby’s disappearance.
