Also, I think the shorter version is nice, but probably a little ''too'' short. It's still mostly fairly experienced users who edit the portals; I for one appreciate the inclusion of the percentage widths since I suck at even the most basic math. This reads as very confusing to me, but I don't know how to simplify it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:39, 28 September 2007 (EDT)

  • It makes sense to me. Maybe if somebody who doesn't edit portals could read it...--Hardvice (talk) 23:39, 28 September 2007 (EDT)
    • I rarely (if ever) edit portals. I can check it out later when I'm in front of a computer and see if it makes sense. If not maybe I can offer suggestions or ask questions to help. (Admin 23:57, 28 September 2007 (EDT))
      • I'd rather this help was summarized and placed above the edit form, with a link to the full help. It's been confirmed on Bionic Wiki that it is possible to hard-code it there by editing MediaWiki:Common.js, but editing the PHP (EditPage.php) would be a much better approach, imho.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:26, 29 September 2007 (EDT)

Shorter version

Here's a much shorter version:

Adding to a Character Portal Adding to a Plot Points Portal
When adding to or making a portal depicting individual characters, cast or crew, it is standard to use the PortalCharacter template. When adding to other portals (ie. for groups and things), it is custom to use the PortalPlotPoints template.

When adding a new cell to a portal, remember to organize alphabetically and to keep the same number of cells/row (5 for character portals, 4 for plotpoints). For more detailed help with examples, see Help:Editing#Portals.

  • Help:Editing is for general editing help. I'd rather see special topics (like templates and portals and theories) get their own page -- in this case, Help:Portals. Also, I think the shorter version is nice, but probably a little too short. It's still mostly fairly experienced users who edit the portals; I for one appreciate the inclusion of the percentage widths since I suck at even the most basic math.
