The needle is a medical instrument designed for injecting radioisotopes into livestock for tracking purposes. The AWI uses the device to inject tracking isotopes into evolved humans they have captured. The device leaves the mark on individuals who have received the injection.

Ted travels to Billings, MT, and forces his way into the Pharmatech Industrial Building. Inside a room stockpiled with the weapon, Ted is confronted by a Pharmatech scientist who wields one at him in. Ted takes control and demands information about the hypo gun. The scientist tells Ted that the gun is used to inject wild animals with a radioactive isotope that allows them to be tracked. Ted, infuriated, burns down the building.
