Spelling

  • Not positive on the spelling. This is what it sounded like to me when Mr. Bennet mentioned it in The Fix. Admin 21:40, 31 January 2007

Portal Cat?

Items, maybe? References? Not sure.--Hardvice (talk) 17:35, 1 February 2007 (EST)

Probably references. Makes the most sense, right? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:42, 1 February 2007 (EST)

Fear

I hope that terms like "glycimerine" and "codons" and so forth don't keep emerging in Heroes. I got more than enough technobabble from Star Trek for a lifetime. Heroes doesn't need it, so I hope they stay away from it. (My opinion is now on record.) Maybe we need a "technobabble" category for made-up terms used in the show? Drawing attention to it might reduce it. --Ted C 16:03, 15 February 2007 (EST)

  • Incidentally "codon" is a real term. Don't know if you meant to include it as a made-up term. :) (Admin 16:06, 15 February 2007 (EST))
    • Even real terms can be misused in a horrible stream of pseudoscientific technobabble, as Star Trek proved repeatedly. In fact, I'd prefer they made up terms over mangling real ones. However, the best route is to avoid excessive technobabble altogether. Mohinder talking to Nathan about Peter's DNA in The Fix (I think) was already over the line. --Ted C 16:34, 15 February 2007 (EST)
  • I have a feeling that they stay away from the geekspeak on the episodes, and relegate it to the peripheral media, including the GNs to some extent. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:20, 15 February 2007 (EST)
    • I expect that if they continue to let it run loose in the graphic novels, the writers will get more comfortable dumping it into the scripts. --Ted C 16:34, 15 February 2007 (EST)
      • What's with the fear of technobabble? I think this show needs more technobabble. I love it! I prefer it to blatant misuse of actual technowhatsits, like the blatant abuse of the Human Genome Project as if it were a phone book. It doesn't matter the details of how something works so long as the gist of it makes sense and remains consistent within the storytelling (on multiple platforms) if they just do technobabble in the graphic novels and then not in the show that'd be what's lame. I like consistency in my technobabble! -- ZachsMind 14:13, 2 March 2007 (EST)
        • I think Heroes appeals to sci-fi people as well as drama people. They may be trying to keep the show from heading too much in one direction for fear of alienating the other. Hey, I don't mind... whatever keeps Heroes popular and on the air! :) (Admin 14:17, 2 March 2007 (EST))
        • So far, technobabble hasn't be a major problem, but I find it distracts from the story more often than it helps. What I really fear is the possibility that they will start spouting technobabble solutions to plot problems, like techobabble devices that keep assorted powers from working (already used to some extent with Sylar's cell). --Ted C 18:00, 2 March 2007 (EST)

I think all this guy needs is a references sidebar and a standard-sized image, and to be Portal'd. It looks like it's as complete as can be for now. Incidentally, we should probably also have an article for Curare, which Mo admins to Sylar in Parasite, which at least has the advantage of being a real drug.--Hardvice (talk) 17:29, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
