It's never been my intention to make money off this site, nor do I really think it would be appropriate since it's the community that makes this site what it is. It has been my hope, however, to be able to recover the costs of advertising this site. The advertisements have been instrumental in getting the word out and building up the user base, but have been costly. The great thing is that as the site becomes more popular it receives more word-of-mouth advertising so it may be possible to reduce the advertising expenses. What I'd like to do is start placing some Google ads in the sidebar and possibly at the bottom of the page. This will be similar to the advertising already seen on the Lostpedia and Memory Alpha wikis. Google ads are fairly prevalent and unobtrusive. |

The initial response to discussion about including advertising is usually negative. Please keep in mind though that the goal first and foremost is to help make the wiki self-sustaining and improve its growth potential, not to put money into someone's pockets. This advertising will be here to benefit the wiki itself, not me personally. |

I'd appreciate [[Heroes Wiki talk:Advertising|feedback]] from the community on this. The details on how any profits would be distributed can be worked out later if it appears that we're going to be net positive, but I'd like to at least find out whether others think there are good ideas or not. If this system seems undesirable then it's always possible for 100% of the net proceeds to go to supporting wiki expansion. |

Advertising Information
Hosting Google and Amazon advertisements is the primary source of revenue for Heroes Wiki. No member (including administrators) receives any personal profit from advertising revenue. Ad revenue generated from advertisements is used for the following purposes:

Ad Blocking
While blocking advertisements is becoming easier by the day, I'd like to ask that visitors to please not block the advertisements here at Heroes Wiki. We only use Google Ads as Google is one of the advertising companies that maintains strict quality requirements for ads on their network. This way you won't be served annoying pop-up ads or ads that might not be safe for work. Even if you do not click on any ads that you find interesting revenue is generated sometimes simply by allowing the ad to load. So even if you never click on ads you are helping Heroes Wiki by not blocking them. If your ad blocker is blocking ads here by default, please lend us a hand and have your ad blocker allow ads from this site. As stated above the revenue from advertising is going to a good cause, so I'd like to ask people to please help contribute by not blocking ads here. Thanks!

If you're looking for a simple home page with Google search for your browser when it starts up, feel free to use http://heroeswiki.com/home.php. Using it for searches will help generate some ad revenue for Heroes Wiki. In addition to searching the web it also has options allowing you to easily limit your Google search to either Heroes Wiki or Wikipedia. To quickly set your home page just drag the link above to the Home icon at the top of your browser. It's a nice replacement if your homepage is currently Google or blank, plus it helps out Heroes Wiki! If there's anything more that you'd want to see on the page just let me know.
