Fan Creation talk:Villains

It's online!

• Chapter 1: Origins in now online... it uses DivX video player and I just got through watching the first 8 minutes when my browser/computer froze up and I had to restart.   • Ok, I finished watching and doing a synopsis. It seems well done and is definately interesting. There's a lot of details in the production which seem to move the show more towards synopsis-format more than short summary, and there are a couple other reasons I list below in my reply to Ryan.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:33, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Synopsis

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a brief (one- or two-paragraph) synopsis, especially since this is a fan creation? I mean, a synopsis really should more of a quick capture of what happened rather than a scene-by-scene breakdown. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:43, 4 February 2008 (EST)

• We could do that, but other fan creations were not extended series, so that's why I went with a synopsis. Also, I'm not sure we can purely call this a fan-creation. It seems to be professionally done and it is created by a company called Hollywood Dropout Production. However, whether or not that is a real company is speculation so leaving it a fan-creation is okay, I guess...--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:29, 4 February 2008 (EST)
  • I don't really think it is the degree of professionalism that matters, rather than the amount of cooperation and consultation Heroes creators give it, which would change it from Fan creation to something else. -- Lulu (talk) 20:38, 4 February 2008 (EST)
    • I'm thinking that this may be similar to the category of Saving Charlie, as it is a work based on Heroes published by a company rather than a single person/group of people. If someone else published a novel based on Heroes without final draft approval by the writing staff, it should probably be grouped and handled the same way, imho.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:45, 4 February 2008 (EST)
      • This is not at all like Saving Charlie. Saving Charlie is a novel written in collaboration with some of the Heroes creative team, a story created by Jeph Loeb, paid for by NBC (or rather, NBC hired Del Rey), and promoted heavily at NBC.com. Though Villains is cool and very fun ("professionally done" seems a bit subjective, though that's neither here nor there), it's still a fan creation. Even if Paramount Pictures or Disney created a movie based on Heroes (which would be illegal since it's copyrighted material) or funnyordie.com spent a ton of money on the best production values for a Heroes-based work, it's still a fan creation if it's not endorsed by NBC. Professionalism doesn't matter, it's who pays the bills--that's why Zeroes, a purposely low-budget piece, is not a fan creation....But to address the original point, I don't think a full-blown synopsis is bad, it just seems unnecessary. I mean, knock yourself out (and hey, it looks terrific!), I just don't see the point in trying to keep up with such detailed synopses for something that's not in our canon of works.-- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:03, 4 February 2008 (EST)
      • Yeah, this is definitely a fan-creation and Ryan your explanation is dead on. The interesting issue here is the level of detail for the summary. We have a precedent that fan creations don't span multiple pages because our goal is to document the creation from a high-level. If this were the only episode I dont think the level of detail would be a problem, but if this series continues then that level of detail will make this page unweildly after a few episodes. Whether we leave the long synopsis for now or not isn't really a concern for me, as long as we expect that after another episode or two it will be trimmed down to just a summary. • Hey Guys! My Name is Chris Rymer aka the Creator of Villains. I'm writing the first season with the help of 3 other writers. I appreciate you guys taking the time to put this together. I don't know how to use Wiki so sorry if I'm screwing up the format. I'll answer some questions that I've noticed so far. We are independent, we're just fans who love Heroes! Lenny is actually the character who talks to Reid as he walks into the office. Lenny plays a bigger role down the line. I'm really excited to see that you guys enjoy the series. We really rushed the first episode so it's not as "professional" as we would have liked it to be. The second episode will be longer and better in my opinion! Once again, I greatly appreciate it! I would be willing to answer any questions you might have about the series. Also if you guys wanted to do character pages I have access to some promotional pictures and bios, stuff like that.   • Thanks! I'm really glad you guys like it. I wish I could give you an exact date on the next episode, but I can promise that we're releasing as soon as it's done. We're aiming for the first week of March. We're already more than half way done with filming, which should wrap up Mid February. We honestly did all the editing for episode 1 in about a week, special effects in a day, and music in a day just to meet the deadline. Episode 2 we're spending a lot more time to make things better. What I can tell you is, episode 2 focuses on 2 new characters who already start off a lot more villainous (Reid and Dane are a role reversal story). Think, hot girls and more action.       • What's the youtube link for part 2? I can't find the video there and the one at the official web site is running jerkily on my PC. I think I must be missing a lot of video frames cause the effects looked better in the first video. Also, the videos.html link no longer works for the official site. The second video is on the homepage so visitors can no longer access part one on the official site. Overall, the plot seemed alright but though Johnny's story is good, it seemed almost as if Johnny's story was 80% of the video; could have used additional character development for the model or put her in a different segment. Side note on the model: Template:Spoilertext (hindsight is 20-20, though).         • If you go to http://www.youtube.com/villainstheseries you should be able to find it there. Thanks for the criticism, it's always appreciated. Johnny was one of the original cast of 5 that we came up with. It wasn't until later that we developed some of the other characters and unfortunately it shows some times. Certain things get rushed and cut when you're meeting deadlines. It's funny how you can stare at a script for two months and not catch little plot holes like that.
