Template talk:Assignment Tracker
What's the intention of this? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:55, 2 January 2009 (EST)
- To recreate Assignment Tracker files. (See here.) That way we can put all the information on the wiki, and we'll have it archived even if the ATs go offline. Some already are inaccessible, so it's best to get a jump on it now in case others disappear too. Plus, I'm sure there will be some users who will want to create fan AT pages for themselves with fake names, etc. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:31, 2 January 2009 (EST)
- Nice. Just a question: is there any way to adjust the control index? It looks like it's stuck at 50%. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 10:21, 2 January 2009 (EST)
- Yeah, I'm not done with it. I've got a couple other bells and whistles to add. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:19, 2 January 2009 (EST)

- I was already prepared for this day, with my Heroes Evolution section on my user page. The day has finally come. --DocM 17:20, 2 January 2009 (EST)

Issues
This is a fairly involved template, so it's hard for me to check every aspect of it on every computer. Is anybody having any issues with the way it looks or works? I've heard one person say that the control index bar looks "wonky"--does anybody see that? Are there any browser-specific issues with the template? Anything not behaving properly? (Any requests for other functions?) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:23, 3 January 2009 (EST)
- Under the ability name, I tried listing two abilities to see what would happen. I wasn't quite sure what to do, so I put a line break between the two. While they both had the correct font and such, the blue in the back didn't expand, so it was how you say, wonky. Did I do something wrong or is it not set to expand?--Riddler 03:13, 4 January 2009 (EST)
- It's not set to expand. The blue background is part of the form, which means it's part of the picture. I can't expand that, sorry. What are the powers you're trying to add? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:18, 4 January 2009 (EST)
- I was testing one for my character Blank Berlin, just to see how the thing works, but I supposed it will be needed to archive Brendan Lewis, no? I was listing Omnilingualism and Illusion, but for Brendan Lewish we'd need Plant manipulation and Regeneration.--Riddler 03:20, 4 January 2009 (EST)
- Oh, gosh, I didn't realize that Brendan's ability field actually takes up double space. That looks really bad on the real file, doesn't it! I just abbreviated the ability name so it fits on one line, rather than basically having to create an entirely new template just for one guy... My suggestion, Riddler, is either to abbreviate, or to put the links in the details field. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:46, 4 January 2009 (EST)

Similar person image link
I'm using template:imagelink to link the image of the person exhibiting similar abilities to their assignment tracker page, just like the real AT does. However, it's only linking to the picture, not to the page. I can't figure it out. If anybody has a clue as to what I'm overlooking, let me know, or feel free to fix it. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:20, 4 January 2009 (EST)
- I looked through it, and it should work (must be something with MediaWiki that I don't know about). How about having the AT image be a redirect to the AT tracker page? This should brute-force it. I did it with Meredith and Flint, and it works fine.--Bob (talk) 02:16, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- That works, thanks. However...it makes the main profile image on their files just become a self redirect. I wonder if I should just add another variable. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:24, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Hm, good point. That might work. Another thing that might work is have the link for the name link to the assignment tracker page if it exists, but it doesn't really solve the image situation. I'll remove the redirects.--Bob (talk) 02:27, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Man, I'm stuck on that one! It'll work for the main pic, but not for the little pic of the similar person. Weird. I even tried hard coding template:imagelink and using a linked div field over the pic, but nothing seems to work. Oh well... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:07, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Can you list an example where it's not working so others like myself can look at it?--MiamiVolts (talk) 03:18, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Nevermind. I found an example and I think it's fixed now. Let me know if that's not what you wanted. I had to remove a duplicate div tag. I think the trouble was you were placing the imagelink there and then later on covering it up with a duplicate image placed manually.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:24, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- PS: Shouldn't the name also link to the AT page?--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:29, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Excellent work! Looks good. I also agree with the name linking to the AT page.--Bob (talk) 20:30, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Good catch, Miami. Thanks! I'm not a fan of linking the similar person's name to their AT page--if there's a blue link that says Meredith Gordon, I think it should redirect to Meredith Gordon, not Assignment Tracker 2.0/Meredith Gordon. But that's just me... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:52, 11 January 2009 (EST)

- One thing I noticed is with the links to the AT page, the ifexist doesn't take into account that the person may exist, but they don't have a page, like Peter and Maury (see Sylar and Matt's AT pages). Any way to fix that? I was screwing around, but I couldn't figure it out.--Bob (talk) 20:45, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Check the ifexist against "Assignment Tracker 2.0/{{{similar person}}}" instead of just "{{{similar person}}}". That should do it. I'm not sure why, but the imagelink hovertext isn't showing correctly for me (it always shows the same as to where the link points to); not a big deal, though. I assume it's cause I'm using firefox.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:49, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Actually, just checked IE and the hovertext isn't different in that browser either.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:55, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Found the answer to my own question. The text= attributes for the imagelink template isn't for the hover box, but instead for what appears in text browsers (such as Lynx) that don't show the image.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:20, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- Ok, I fixed the ifexist so now the similar person info on Sylar's and Matt's AT pages are linking to the mainspace page instead of the AT subpage that doesn't exist.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:08, 10 January 2009 (EST)
- I added some ifexist logic because this template is used by fans so often. Otherwise, there would be red links every time a user created an AT page that had a "similar person" on it (like here). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:52, 11 January 2009 (EST)
