Title

  • Should this be changed to "powernav" instead? That would make it more consistent with the other templates like this, right? (Admin 17:29, 8 December 2006 (EST))

Categorize Powers?

  • Perhaps putting powers together might make it more clear. For example Technopathy and Electronic data transception together because they both are technological. -Zeckalpha 22:08, 25 February 2007 (EST)
    • Hmm. Personally I'm not sure whether that would be helpful since the categories would be somewhat arbitrary. And then eventually we're probably going to come along and find a power that doesn't fit nicely into the categories. (Admin 22:13, 25 February 2007 (EST))
    • I agree with Admin. We just don't know enough about how these powers work to say with any certainty which are and aren't related.--Hardvice (talk) 22:20, 25 February 2007 (EST)
    • Agree. Just because two powers have to do with electronics doesn't mean they're necessarily related or should be categorized together. It's just too speculative. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:31, 26 February 2007 (EST)

DPL problems

The new dpl code makes it so that the power name does not show up on its own page. For instance, on water mimicry, "water mimicry" does not show up in the navbar. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:57, 17 December 2007 (EST)

  • The list is also non-breaking, so the entire list makes me scroll over about three or four screens to the right. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:47, 17 December 2007 (EST)
    • Ok, I think I've fixed both the wrapping and self-inclusion bugs. Check now?--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:15, 17 December 2007 (EST)
      • Works now. (I'll have to get my head around all those dpl variables one day...) So in order to make the template work, we have to make sure that each power article is in Category:Abilities, but not in Category:Lists. For the See Also section, each page should be in Category:Abilities and in Category:Lists. Seems easy enough. I'm not quite sure all the See Also pages (ability heredity, ability theft, paradox, and rift in particular) really should be considered lists, but I guess that's the sacrifice one pays for ease in maintenance of a navbar. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:44, 17 December 2007 (EST)
        • If we could just remove ability heredity, ability theft, paradox, and rift from the navbar it would be perfect. But they really dont fit with the other powers. That's why we have the "see also" thing at the bottom. --Piemanmoo 19:05, 18 December 2007 (EST)
          • Do you have a suggestion for where they should go instead? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:13, 18 December 2007 (EST)
            • We could move them to a "Related articles to abilities" page, but I kind of like having them in the Navbar.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:18, 18 December 2007 (EST)
            • I think they were fine where they were before, at the bottom of the navbar, not inside it. --Piemanmoo 19:30, 18 December 2007 (EST)
              • Oh, I didn't see that they were moved to the inside of the navbar. I think I misunderstood before. I like them on the navbar (in the See Also section), but not in the navbar (with all the other powers). I'll remove the automation for now so it matches the portals and so we don't list peripheral articles which are not abilities along with the other abilities. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:47, 18 December 2007 (EST)
                • Ryan, you took the automation out, but it looks the same to me. I guess it doesn't show up in IE?--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:54, 18 December 2007 (EST)
                  • Thanks for the image, Ryan. It should be better now, so I think you can delete Image:Automated vs manual template-power.jpg.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:38, 18 December 2007 (EST)
                    • Yes, it's working fine now for me. Good job. It was including Portal:Abilities in the See Also section, so I removed the link from Template:AbilitiesPortalNav and now it's doing its thang. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk)
                      • Good catch. I added a note to that affect in the template's usage section.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:54, 18 December 2007 (EST)
                        • That's a good idea. We should probably make it a habit to add those kinds of notes when automating templates so we don't forget down the road. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:02, 18 December 2007 (EST)

Split

Can a DPL expert split this power into two sections: Episodic Abilities and Graphic Novel Abilities? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:35, 25 February 2008 (EST)

  • Do you want to work on this, Miami? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:52, 29 February 2008 (EST)
    • Sure; just to confirm, you want to use the same template for both the main and GN abilities?--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:59, 29 February 2008 (EST)
      • Yes. It should be a template split into a top and bottom section, like template:reference or template:homes. There's no change that needs to take place on the article pages, just in the template itself. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:12, 29 February 2008 (EST)
        • Ok, I'll make it like that. The other nav templates have all be split into two separate templates for the graphic novels. That's why I asked to double check.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:15, 29 February 2008 (EST)
