This wiki is a XML full dump clone of "Heroes Wiki", the main wiki about the Heroes saga that has been shut down permanently since June 1, 2020. The purpose of this wiki is to keep online an exhaustive and accurate database about the franchise.

Hello all.

Yes, hello. First off, we need to reorganize the Main Page as to be consistent with other Wikis, like [Lostpedia], more like very much exactly. It needs to not be like a regular article, but a proper frontpage.

Second, reorganize articles to be more consistent with similar projects. Basically, snipe format and rules from Lostpedia.

Third, add images. Don't just snipe official ones, or Wikipedian ones. For example, GET A PIC OF THE SYMBOL!!

Fourth, the logo. We currently have a Logo contest. Guidelines : It should work on the default white background. It should incorporate some type of official image - such as the eclipse halo or the symbol.

Finally, let's recruit more people, and experienced Wiki editors to Wikify this Wiki. Like an ISO.

Regarding Browsing and Formatting.

When writing or adding to an article, and inter-linking it, please be wary of using standard formatting. Information about standard elements and formatting is available here, and general Wiki formatting information is available here.

Also, be sure to avoid creating duplicate articles. Search around to find if related articles already exist and redirect to them as appropriate. It's one of the great things about wikis.

Theories

As a reader of Lostpedia, I noticed that they've recently rolled out a new feature: theory tabs at the top of pages. Considering Heroes is still at a relatively young point and theories aren't quite as numerous, rampant, and developed as in Lost, I think that as time progresses, it could be a good idea. It could definitely help keep the pages less cluttered. Please discuss any thoughts on this article's discussion page.

Soandso is Sylar

  • How do people feel about gettind rid of all the "Soandso is Sylar" theories? By this point I think it should be clear that Sylar is his own character. I'm in favor of purging disproven fan theories rather than leaving them with "proven" notes on them since a lot of fan theories are, in my opinion, barely even worth including. Minor speculation seems ok when they imply things, but some of these fan theories are real stretches. (Admin 01:04, 21 November 2006 (EST))
  • I'd even be favor of eliminating "Fan Theories" sections from every article and instead just creating a single article labeled "Fan Theories". To me the fan theories actually decrease the quality of our articles by introducing extreme speculation. We could have a single Fan Theories article with a label at the top indicating that it's not information that's been substantiated. Other opinions on this? (Admin 15:37, 21 November 2006 (EST))
    • I feel we have a bunch of options here.
  1. We could create a shadow document for every article, similar to Lostepedia ("Community Portal/Theories) and put a reference as a tab at the top of the page. I think that was mentioned before, and it requires coding to alter the wiki JavaScript, but once you do that, it is trivial to navigate to the theory page
  2. We already have pages like this with Spoilers: appended to the front ("Spoilers:Zach"), so we could use that naming convention for the shadow documents, move information out of the primary document into the shadow document, and then manually reference between the two, like we do with the upcoming episode spoilers.
  3. Create a giant fan theories document, with separate sections for each article. In the parent article, just reference the fan theories sub-section with the #Reference.

Option 3 requires the least amount of new pages, but may get unwieldly long... but it makes it easy to purge old disproven theories. I think any of the three methods could be implemented with templates if the articles match up right... --Orne 16:01, 21 November 2006 (EST)

  • Ok, I gave it a shot with the Sylar page. I created the Theories page, and created a template that jumps to the matching section.... so, from now on, all you have to do is include a {{Theories}} into any page and it will auto-create a section that links to the Fan Theories page. This should make it really easy to combine everything together. --Orne 16:19, 21 November 2006 (EST)
  • For what it's worth, I just found this wiki today and loved the all-encompassing theories page, especially the fact that you've kept the old theories around but just struck them through. Helps to be able to see past ideas that have been discounted (which keeps them from popping up again). I'd say leave as one page until it becomes unruly, at which point you'd maybe have found a logical way to split it up. Dschuetz 08:25, 30 November 2006 (EST)
    • Agreed. The theories page makes the whole site so clean. Plus I can ignore the drivel I want... I do think that pretty soon, some of the disproven theories should be removed, or placed in an archive. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:53, 30 November 2006 (EST)
