Mr. Petrelli is Nathan and Peter's late father. According to his widow Angela, he was diagnosed with major depressive disorder at age 23, and committed suicide on April 25 after two other failed attempts, all of which were covered up as heart attacks.
Mr. Petrelli was a criminal defense attorney with ties to Mr. Linderman, and was apparently involved in some of Linderman's illicit activities. Just prior to his apparent suicide, his son Nathan was preparing to prosecute Linderman, even though doing so would implicate his father. Nathan's brother Peter was prepared to testify, indicating he had knowledge of his father's involvement in Linderman's crimes.
He evidently left his wife considerably wealthy.
