Graphic Novel:War Buddies, Part 7

After returning home from the Vietnam War, Linderman briefly remembers an experience from his and his fellow comrades' mission. The experience is of himself in the village he helped destroy, seeing Au Co's dead body on the ground with a woman embracing her in grief.

  • Au Co is named after a mythological fairy who, in Vietnamese legend, married a dragon and gave birth to the Bach Viet, the first Vietnamese people.
  • The fate of the village at the hands of Linderman and Petrelli seems to reference the Bến Tre incident, where those responsible claimed that something positive was accomplished by a violent and destructive act. Though at first disgusted by the whole affair, Mr. Linderman will eventually embrace this philosophy, leading to his plans involving the explosion.
