Buttons
Okay, so I added "buttons" for characters, locations, places, things, actors, and crew members. I also added simple instructions when you click on one of those buttons (try it and see). Can anybody think of anything else that might need to be added--more buttons, different instructions, rewording, etc.? Any other changes anybody would make? Is this worth keeping or is it too distracting? Any other concerns? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:43, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
Welcome new user
Well done on the "welcome user" button--brilliant! I was going to add a button for that, but I didn't want it on every page so I opted against it. I didn't think of the #ifeq function. Nicely done. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:03, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
- I wanted to make the summary say "Welcome!", but I'm clueless. Is it possible to have an auto summary? (Yes, I know, it's icing, but I'm trying to exercise my MediaWiki muscles, and it is a minor inconvenience to type in the same edit summary, especially if it can be autofilled for you.) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:02, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
- I looked, but I couldn't find any documented way to prefill the summary field from the URL.--Hardvice (talk) 13:13, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
- Yeah, I had a feeling. Oh well. I was hoping there was something akin to the summary autofill when creating a redirect, or blanking a page, or even when you hit "undo". Shucks. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:40, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
- Hey, where'd that button go? --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 14:33, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
- I was playing around with stuff, trying to get the welcome button to be the only to show up on blank user pages. I think I reverted it back, and it seems to be working for me. Is it still missing for you? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:11, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
Redirect and disambig
Redirect and disambig templates would be usefull, would it be worth it to add them or would they encouraging to many useless pages? -Lөvөl 13:23, 1 May 2007 (EDT)
- I wouldn't mind having them, but because the "templates" are so short I wonder if they would be better off in the editing tools box? Right now we don't have anything there (it's a box that would show up underneath any editing screen), but I can think of some other good things that wouldn't hurt.
Fan creations
Could someone please add Template:Newpage fan creation to this? --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 14:13, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
- You got it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:17, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
Template over Code
I moved all the table code to template:newarticletextbuttons for two reasons. 1, it allows everybody to edit it rather than just admins. 2, it allows us to include the buttons in the ifeq logic--now the only button that shows up on blank user talk pages is the welcome button, rather than all the other buttons. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:02, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
New options
- Having just discovered the "includeonly substitution magic" trick (
<includeonly>subst:</includeonly>prevents a template from substituting until it is transcluded, but only if the includeonlys are right around the subst:), I've added logic and new buttons for new episodes, graphic novels, and the checklists for each. I've also removed the newpage buttons from template, talk, and template talk pages. (It's set up as a switch by Namespace now, which should allow for a good deal of future expansion).--Hardvice (talk) 03:03, 29 October 2007 (EDT)- Awesome job. Definitely simplifies everything.--Bob (talk) 03:57, 29 October 2007 (EDT)
- Kudos. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 05:49, 29 October 2007 (EDT)
Would it be possible...
- ... to add an 'Event' button to this, somehow? I'm not really au fait with this kind of stuff... Thanks!-- Lost Soul talk contribs 15:13, 15 November 2007 (EST)
Other namespace suggestions
I think it would be a good idea to add catches for buttons and directions templates for the Talk namespace for iStory checklist pages and ability pages. Also, the Spoiler namespace could use catches for buttons and directions for the cast, crew, and character articles.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:17, 13 December 2008 (EST)
- Are there buttons already made for them, or do they need to be made? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:09, 13 December 2008 (EST)
- The button and direction templates need to be made. I was just making the suggestion here first to get feedback.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:13, 13 December 2008 (EST)
Spoiler namespace
See User:MiamiVolts/Newspoilertextbuttons, User:MiamiVolts/Newpage spoiler character, User:MiamiVolts/Newpage spoiler cast, and User:MiamiVolts/Newpage spoiler crew. Feel free to move them to the main template namespace after you create the hook (and delete the redirects thereafter).--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:44, 18 January 2009 (EST)
- I like them. I'll take care of it later when I have a bit more time. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:20, 18 January 2009 (EST)
- See also User:MiamiVolts/Newpage directions spoiler crew and User:MiamiVolts/Newpage spoiler episode.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:13, 19 January 2009 (EST)
Talk namespace
See User:MiamiVolts/Newtalktextbuttons, User:MiamiVolts/Newpage_talk_ability, User:MiamiVolts/Newpage_talk_iStory_volume, and User:MiamiVolts/Newpage_talk_iStory_checklist. This code uses DPL and string/parser functions to confirm that the related article page exists and is categorized as an ability or an iStory volume, as appropriate, before displaying any buttons. Note: using category=*<category> in DPL lets you also match articles belonging to subcategories (that's how I coded it to match both the graphic novel and episode abilities in one pass).--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:41, 19 January 2009 (EST)
Season History Button
Hey RGS, this may be a better place to ask my question. Okay, so you have the buttons that appear when it is a new user welcome button, new page button, new episode buttons, new webisode buttons. But what is the actual link for the "Season History" button page? ~~IHH—Talk 11:07, 30 September 2015 (EDT)
- There is no separate template for it. The "button" is created right on this page. The code is
<div class="plainlinks" style="background-color:#C0C0C0;border:2px outset #9999bb;text-align:center;padding:2px 5px;width:150px">[{{fullurl:{{FULLPAGENAMEE}}|action=edit&preload=Template:Newpage_season_history&editintro=Template:Newpage_season_history_directions}} <font color=#000000>Season History</font>]</div>And the button looks like this:
