Is this page really necessary? Terrifried 06:32, 19 February 2008 (EST)

  • Since it was the target of Linderman's powers, I wouldn't call this page unnecessary, though it's not going to have much information on it. We have a lot of articles like this on the less significant characters in graphic novels. (Admin 10:43, 19 February 2008 (EST))
    • Maybe the deer is really Mr. Muggles Using his illusion power, thus, Linderman did a great thing :)PsilaqTalk to me 20 February 2008, 20:01 (EST)
      • It's about as necessary as Ando's watch. Which is to say, not at all.--Leshia 21:23, 20 February 2008 (EST)
        • You're kidding! That's a pivotal plot point right there! :] -- Lulu (talk) 21:29, 20 February 2008 (EST)

Deer Hunter Trivia

  • I think The Deer Hunter is a good trivia since Linderman had just came back from Vietnam, like the characters in the movie.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:52, 7 March 2008 (EST)
  • Was there any confirmation from the writer that the deer was not a reference to the movie? If not then I think the notes and trivia are still pertinent and should be reincluded. We place comparisons to other works in other articles as well. (Admin 13:28, 17 March 2008 (EDT))
    • I second that obviously: "trivia" means general knowledge. Also we will never see symbolic values if we treat each deer separately, even if the one in Lizards on the blossom field is 17th century... --Juba 14:02, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
    • I haven't ever been able to contact John O'Hara, but I can ask Micah Gunnell. However, there has been just as much confirmation that the deer wasn't a reference to the movie as there has been confirmation that the deer was a reference to the movie (i.e. in both cases, absolutely none). We include comparisons to other works in the trivia/notes sections only when they references are overt or they're mentioned in interviews, commentaries, etc. That's the reason we deleted Friday Night Lights: there was no confirmed connection. Adding a note about The Deer Hunter seems like it's forcing a connection where there simply is none. The movie has nothing to do with deer, and this deer has nothing to do with the movie. The fact that Linderman just got home from Vietnam may be the reason the animal was chosen (to reference the title of the movie, I suppose), but I'd much rather have confirmation of that fact. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:31, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
      • I have no problem with only listing references in notes and trivia that have been confirmed (and even the tricky area of the obvious references (i.e. Back to the Future)), but if we're going to do that we need to make sure we're consistent. I thought I remember articles where we list references that were likely but not confirmed, though I dont remember specific ones offhand. The Friday Night Lights article was a slightly different case because that's about not creating entire articles about non-confirmed references, though I would agree that it would be consistent to apply the same stringency to references listed in notes and trivia. (Admin 14:37, 17 March 2008 (EDT))
        • If anybody finds a reference in the notes or trivia that isn't either an obvious reference or mentioned somewhere in an interview, I'd be curious to see it. I'm pretty sure we've gotten them all out. (The comic book Tales from Space was a prop used only in Back to the Future.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:46, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
          • Ok, cool. Maybe the notes/trivia I'm remembering have already been taken out. If I come across any I'll point them out. (Admin 15:14, 17 March 2008 (EDT))
