Talk:Portal:GN Miscellaneous Places

I think one reference to the location is enough. We don't need to say "Paris Park/Paris, France", for instance. It's redundant; the name of the park is not "Paris park", that's just a name we've given it to distinguish it from other parks. That's why we have the link and linktext options. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:46, 29 August 2007 (EDT)

  • Makes sense; nice catches. I think 'Money Launderer's Office' should be smallfont to keep one line, though, so I readded that.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:56, 29 August 2007 (EDT)
    • I think it looks funny in small font. I'm going to put nbsps in so it doesn't break the line--if it still looks odd on your browser, just change it back to small. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:31, 29 August 2007 (EDT)

split?

the list is getting a tad long, might it be split somehow?--SacValleyDweller 00:37, 28 October 2007 (EDT)

  • We just split the episode places a few ways (Offices, Medical, Political/Government, Restaurants/Bars, Hotels/Casinos). We can probably do some of the same ones here. GNs are still also missing Transportation-related places, but that would only cover one two of these. The only other one that stands out here as a possibility is "Parks & Outdoors". We could also split residences into homes and apartments like we did on the episode side, but that doesn't affect this article.--Hardvice (talk) 00:48, 28 October 2007 (EDT)
  • What about something about war or battles? Rayhond 00:51, 28 October 2007 (EDT)
    • Military, maybe. We tend to categorize places by function, not by events.--Hardvice (talk) 00:59, 28 October 2007 (EDT)

Here's a breakdown of what we'd gain using the existing episode categories:

  • Offices: 1 (ML's Office)
  • Medical: 3 (Ren's hospital, Town Morgue, NY Hospital)
  • Political/Government: 2, both from Law Enforcement (Pentagon, US Embassy)
  • Restaurants/Bars: 3, all from Businesses (Le Bar, Coffee Shop, RGS)
  • Hotels/Casinos: 2, from Businesses (Paris hotel, Child pornographer's room)
  • Transportation: 5, 2 from Businesses (Chelsea Cab Co., Reagan Int'l, Cote d'Azur Harbor, Launch site, Chicago Train Station)

That only clears 7 off from this page, leaving 13. Parks & Outdoors would be another 6 or so.--Hardvice (talk) 00:59, 28 October 2007 (EDT)

  • Parks and Outdoors makes sense. What if we called it "Recreation"? Is that too broad? I think it'd also be a good idea to split off transportation places, since there are enough to make a nice portal. I don't really mind the others one way or another. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:22, 28 October 2007 (EDT)
    • We're probably ready to separate medical now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:14, 29 January 2008 (EST)
      • I agree about splitting off medical.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:57, 29 January 2008 (EST)
