Talk:Portal:Miscellaneous Places

This is getting pretty big. We can maybe split off the Airport, Subway, Subway, and Parking Garage as "Transportation" or something.--Hardvice (talk) 02:23, 19 February 2007 (EST)

  • Sounds right to me. Even the harbor could go there if needed, but it's not necessary. The museum could be shipped over to Education & Research as well. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:29, 19 February 2007 (EST)

Resplit

It's getting unwieldy again. could we possibly split off the New York (state) Misc places into a new portal to keep this small-ish?--SacValleyDweller 17:04, 21 October 2007 (EDT)

  • Perhaps. Grouping the Texas articles and New York state articles, that would reduce the page to ten, which is much better than 24.--Bob (talk) 17:19, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
    • Hmm. It seems a little weird to suddenly start splitting geographically when all the other splits are by purpose. Is there any other split we can consider?--Hardvice (talk) 18:35, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
      • Two possibilities come to mind: Medical places, Politcal places. Others can conceivably go elsewhere: the locker room can go on Education (P.E. is a class, too, you know), the gravel plant and the warehouse could be businesses, etc. I'd hate to suddenly switch horses midstream just because a page is long. In fact, if we're determined to keep these all as "miscellaneous" places, I'd just as soon just split them alphabetically into subpages rather than split them geographically.--Hardvice (talk) 18:39, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
        • Agree, I'm not a fan of splitting by location. It's a good idea, it just doesn't fit with the way we've split other portals. If we split by purpose, I'm seeing that we have three hospitals. There are three offices. I can see more hospitals being added (Angela's comes to mind) and more offices (Linderman's has never been added). There are only two political places, unless you count Nathan's office. I can't see too many more being added, but I might be wrong. Incidentally, there are two hotel rooms; we could combine those with Corinthian, Montecito, and Littlefield to make Portal:Hotels.

Anyway, if we split hospitals (or just make it more general and say "Medical Places"), offices, and hotels, that leaves us 16 miscellaneous places, and 10 businesses.

          • Further, we could add Yamagato to Portal:Offices if we wanted. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:10, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
            • Oh, and it looks like updates are already being made. Ne'er mind. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:11, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
              • Heh. That's what I get for charging in without reading RC. In any case, I would still have wanted to split politics, if for no other reason than to move the White House in. The more we split this page now, the better we'll be in the long run. This page should ideally just be a catch-all for articles until there are enough of a certain type to make a category (usually about 3-4), like Portal:Items. Both offices and hotels sound like good options. The real question is how we treat things that legitimately fit more than one portal. I don't see a problem with taking the casinos off the "business" page because "hotel" is more specific than "business".--Hardvice (talk) 23:58, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
                • OK, we're down to 13 misc. That's a lot more manageable. We could farm off the explosion memorial, Hollywood sign, Kirby Plaza, and Times Square into Landmarks if we really wanted, but that seems a bit unnecessary for now. I also added Linderman's office to Offices. Incidentally, I think if we go back and look at Season 1 we'll find that we're missing lots of places. Just splitting them up got me thinking of a few. Didn't we used to have an article for Sylar and Mohinder's motel in Bozeman? What about the convenience store in which Matt blacks out? Our threshold for places seems to have dramatically receded since we last considered missing ones.--Hardvice (talk) 05:07, 22 October 2007 (EDT)

Shipping Yard

  • Shouldn't it be transportation, to match the harbors and docks?--Hardvice (talk) 00:30, 29 October 2007 (EDT)

Recreation

  • Hmm, the outdoors-y places over here include Karen Sprague's grave and the explosion memorial. Maybe "recreation" isn't the best choice.--Hardvice (talk) 00:32, 29 October 2007 (EDT)
    • You're right--I suppose "Parks and Outdoors" or something generally similar like that would be better. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 05:58, 29 October 2007 (EDT)

Is that enogh for a new portal?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 18:41, 7 March 2009 (EST)

  • Sounds good to me! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:13, 7 March 2009 (EST)
    • Alright! I'll mobilize on it tomorrow, provided an icon. Where do you think it would be best put? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:33, 8 March 2009 (EST)
