re: need my own sandbox

Yesterday, I created a page in the Heroes Wiki:Sandbox, and made a personal subpage out of it using the move tool. I probably bunged up the sandbox in the process, though, and I dont want to do that again when I need to do something like that again. I don't know how else to create a personal subpage. so can I get a sandbox of my own to use for that purpose and a link to said creation in my main userpage, please? thanks!--SacValleyDweller 19:26, 18 October 2007 (EDT)

  • Okay, I created a sandbox for you. The link is User:SacValleyDweller/Sandbox. Don't worry about bunging up the site sandbox, I took care of it for you. I moved it back so it would preserve the history (there's things I've done in there way back when that I like to go back and check every once in awhile). I then recreated the dubious canon page you made--the link is User:SacValleyDweller/Non or Dubious Canon‎. By the way, in the future, if you ever want to create a subpage for yourself, it's pretty simple. Just type in the name you want for the page (User:SacValleyDweller/Example, for instance) into the search bar, hit "go", then click the red link. Or, you can create a red link on your userpage, click the red link, then start editing away. If you ever need help, don't hesitate to ask. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:36, 18 October 2007 (EDT)

Re : You dont watch Heroes anymore?

  • I'm just double checking what you want to say in your userpage, since English isn't your native language. Your usage of the term "Used to Watch" leads me to believe that you don't watch Heroes, or the other shows in the list, anymore because you dont like it, or some other reason other than that you are waiting for Season 2 to air. I used to watch The Simpsons, but I don't now because I no longer like the show. I watch Heroes, but I am not watching it because I am waiting for Season 2 to air. (SacValleyDweller 16:18, 3 September 2007 (EDT))
    • No, that's probably a misstake of mine.. My userpage is outdated, I mean, my english is supposed to be better know hehe, so I probably should rewrite the entire page.. I actually continue to follow Heroes just like you all, I'm waiting for season two to begin. :] ps : I still love the simpsons :) -- Frenchflo.gif (talk) 16:59, 3 September 2007 (EDT)

Old News: A suggestion on bettering my user page

  • Hi! Here's a tip. Might want to blurb or box the help on your userpage so that it fits nicer.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:41, 27 August 2007 (EDT)
    • I think Miami might be talking about doing something like this: {{blurb}}{{helpbox}}{{blurbclose}}. It would put a blurb around the helpbox, causing it to be left-aligned instead of right-. Try it on your page, preview it, and see if you like it. It's not my favorite, but at least it takes care of the layout. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:48, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
      • Thanks, now how do I stick the text in that section next to the left aligned help box. SacValleyDweller 01:52, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
        • Without changing template:helpbox itself, the only way I can think of making something float is if it's an image. Give me a minute, let me see what I can work out. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:56, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
          • Okay, a pretty simple template adjustment. Try this: {{helpbox|left=true}} (and you can take out all the blurb stuff). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:00, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
            • Doesnt seem to be working--SacValleyDweller 02:07, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
              • I'm lost. Sorry... :( -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:11, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
                • Quite alright, it don't have to be pretty to be functional, thanks anyway ;)--SacValleyDweller 02:15, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
                  • Okay, got it. Just had to take some time to add some extra table code and pad the margins. Take a look at the left and see if that's what you're looking for. If so, here's the code for it: {{helpbox|left=true}}. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:01, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
                    • Whatever you did on my userpage: NICE! Thank you very much! --SacValleyDweller 18:39, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
                      • So you like the box I added and the new centered helpbox? You're welcome. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:20, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
                        • Oh, that was you, Miami. Thought it was Ryan. Gotta pay atentionn to those sigs, no avys here XO. Thanks again! --SacValleyDweller 22:26, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
                          • Both of us, working separately on slightly different challenges, actually. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:33, 28 August 2007 (EDT)

Engineer

Why not just add a note, instead of totaling removing him? "Unaired canon" is kinda tricky ground, but its probably better to keep him with a note, than to totally remove him. --HiroDynoSlayer 19:41, November 3, 2007

Sig

For your sig, I actually got help from Ryan. Go here for the code I used. Just substitute the colors, and you can fool around with the bold text and what not. I reduced the padding so it doesn't take up all the space a blurb uses. Hope that helps.--Bob (talk) 03:02, 4 November 2007 (EST)

  • thanks --SacValleyDweller (talk) 13:39, 4 November 2007 (EST)
    • SacValleyDweller, your signature is a bit big in terms of height. You might want to set the line-height style attribute or change the font, as it is covering up almost half of the line above it when you leave a multi-line comment.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:37, 4 November 2007 (EST)
      • wouldnt know how, might you be able to fix that on it's page--SacValleyDweller (talk) 17:55, 4 November 2007 (EST)
        • Okay, I'm working on it. I shrank it a little bit so far. More to come.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:02, 4 November 2007 (EST)
          • Alright, check it out and let me know. It looks much better, now, imho. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:20, 4 November 2007 (EST)
            • Your sig looks great. I also like that it's not putting a ton of code on the talk pages. BTW, orange is my wife's favorite color, and she had some really nice things to say about it. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:32, 4 November 2007 (EST)

Sig, part II: adding the "autosig" subpage :)

Hey, now your sig is showing up as like 10 lines in diff's. Ouch... check out the addition I made to Help:Signatures#Extended formatting for signatures. It tells you how to use an "autosig" to shrink that back to just a single-line template call. I thought you had fixed that based on Ryan's comment, but now it appears that you you hadn't.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:22, 12 November 2007 (EST)

  • blink: news to me, perhaps you saw an old sig somewhere, it haint doing it with me.--SacValleyDweller (talk to me) 01:27, 12 November 2007 (EST)
    • Edit: zark! it is!--SacValleyDweller (talk to me) 01:28, 12 November 2007 (EST)
    • Have you read the help yet? It has step by step instructions. Also, Ryan gave you a condensed version on his talk page.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:36, 12 November 2007 (EST)

User:SacValleyDweller/Release Order Optimized

Hey there. Frank at HeroesARG.com wanted to know if he "could borrow/transcribe/copy the graphic novel listing that SacValleyDweller created to use on HeroesARG.com." He goes into more depth in the email, which I'll forward to you if you want to email me at ryangibsonstewart(at)heroeswiki(dot)com. I told him you'd probably have no problem with it (and I forward the email to Admin because I think legally he can take what he wants, but I'm not sure), but you might want to talk to him about a few other things he mentions. Great publicity on that page, by the way. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:52, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Revolutionary War, Part 2

Ah, the elusive Tom Grummett...I've tried getting ahold of him many times, and never been successful. He's near the top of my wishlist of interviews I'd like to conduct. As for Edgar Delgado, I don't communicate a whole lot with him. He's answered a few of my messages at his deviantART page--you might try contacting him there. But the short answer is no, I don't know who is doing Part 2. Sorry... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:57, 20 November 2007 (EST)

Archiving

Hey, it's December now. Did you want to take a stab at archiving Talk:Electromagnetism?--MiamiVolts (talk) 08:09, 5 December 2007 (EST)

  • Ok, I updated it for you.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:32, 5 December 2007 (EST)

Number style

Where does NBC reference the numbers as #.0# instead of #.#? I can only find the latter, and IMDb uses the latter format too.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:33, 10 December 2007 (EST)

  • hm! must be a personal preference thing, I suppose, and it keeps ep 12 after ep 8 for example in computer systems--SacValleyDweller (talk) 18:42, 10 December 2007 (EST)

This day in Heroes history

I've been working on this some. You can catch up on the discussion here if you're still interested.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:02, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Snowfall date

The date of the article was in 2006, but the article was about snow falling in Miami in 1977. I moved the date reference to the 'about' section and clarified. Hopefully it's clearer now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:15, 30 December 2007 (EST)

  • Actually, the article is about the 2006 snowfall, but mentions the 1977 snowfall. Bob focuses on the 1977 event. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:42, 31 December 2007 (EST)
    • Thanks, Ryan. To clarify, the headline was Snow falls in Miami and the article was relating the 2006 snowfall in Central Florida to other snowfalls, highlighting the Miami snowfall of 1977.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:37, 1 January 2008 (EST)

In case you missed me

On the morning of Friday, January 4, 2008, I woke to no electricity and a rainstorm with 60 MPH south winds. this persisted until about 2 that day, dropping about 3 inches of rain in 24 hrs. Aftetrmath: power out till 9pm that day, internet KO'd. Phone message at my ISP company says that their tower in Marysville was destroyed in the storm and wont be operational till after Thursday. I just got internet back now. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 19:27, 9 January 2008 (EST)

  • Wow. The amount of damage sounds disproportionately high to the severity of the weather. Are you in a very rural area that doesn't get quick attention from the utility companies? (Admin 19:48, 9 January 2008 (EST))
    • I wouldn't say it's that rural, it's the nearest towns are about 10 minutes away, and their population is about 7,000, but could be. some neighbors and family that live in the same are a were out of power for about 3 days. thank goodness I wasnt in Marysville, but I guess my ISP doesnt have many people working for it or is slow to respond for some other reason. It's the only company that can give me internet at any decent speed (300 KB/s vs 15 kb using the phone lines). Anyway thank goodness I have it back, I was going nuts trying to find something half decent to watch on tv, doing laundry, playing Sim City 3000, and trying to think of make work projects for myself, OI!--SacValleyDweller (talk) 20:04, 9 January 2008 (EST)

Archiving Instructions

Hey, SVD. I'm wasn't sure if you wanted full-blown instructions on your user page, if you wanted a link, or what. In any case, I wrote some instructions at this link awhile ago. Feel free to use what you need from it. The trick is basically to open a new subpage, say User talk:SacValleyDweller/Archive 1, then just cut and paste everything you want from your talk page to your archive page. Don't forget to add {{archivepage}} to the top of the page. It's also a good idea to have a link somewhere on your talk page to the archive page. I use a blurb, but others might use a table or just a link at the top. It's really your preference. That should be just about everything you need to get you started, but let me know if you need more assistance. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:53, 21 February 2008 (EST)

Language bias

I read your comment on FrenchFlo's talk page and thought I'd leave some info for you. I've heard the same stories about French bias against non-native speakers speaking French. Due to Haitian immigration to South Florida, French/Creole is the third most popular language in my area after English and Spanish. However, I find native Spanish speakers in South Florida to be more non-accepting of Spanish errors than native French speakers here are of French errors (and my French is extremely limited), so it's not necessarily just a "French" thing. That said, it's true that the French speakers of France are notorious for being very picky about their language.--MiamiVolts (talk) 05:42, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

About the French thing...

Mhh.. I don't really know, I live in South of France and I never have been confronted to this kind of behaviour... But I can imagine that it may be true with some people of us, especially in Paris. I don't know.. Maybe it's a legend.. French are supposed to be rude I think :) -- Frenchflo.gif (talk) 09:44, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
