Welcome to Heroes Wiki!
Here are a few links to get you started:
- If you are new to Heroes, you might want to start at the New User Portal.
- If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
- If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style.
- If you're ready to get started, Template:Todo lists some ways you can help out.
- Of course, if you have your own idea for a new article, that's great, too.
- Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
- To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the Summary field before you save your changes.
- You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
- When posting on an article's Talk page you should add --~~~~ or click the signature button.
- This will add a signature and timestamp to the end of your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
- Any new sections on an article's Talk page should be added to the bottom of the page and not to the top.
- When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
- If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for an administrator.
- You can also customize your user page if you like.
Once again, welcome to Heroes Wiki!
Examples pages
- Hey there. Nice work with the additions to the Examples pages. When adding the examples that have the episode reference after them, there should be a line break (<br />) right before the title so that the title ends up on a line of its own. Check out some of the other entries in the Examples gallery and you'll see they have the line break. I've been adding them in to the new examples you've added, but I figured I'd give you a heads up. :) (Admin 09:41, 21 October 2008 (EDT))
- Oh sorry, I'll do that from now on (: (User:Samstorey) 14:46, 21 October 2008
- Hi, and welcome. Very nice work with adding pictures to the gallery, but I did want to mention one thing about it. When stringing the descriptions of several pictures together, you should place an ellipsis (...) at the end of the first description, and at the beginning of the second one, and so on down the line until the last one. As an example, the ones you added to Lightning Season 3 most recently, should look like:
Elle loses control of her powers near a guard... ...in the shower... ...in the London Undergroud... ...and in the rain. (Sum Quod Sum, Part 1)
- Also, with regards to stringing the picture descriptions together, a good practice is to only do that when the pictures occurred in a row, like with the first set of Season 3 Elle and Sylar pictures. When events happen separately (like the one I posted above), they should each get their own caption. Again, good work and welcome! :) --Stevehim 15:40, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
- okay, thanks for the tips =D --Samstorey 10:23, October 22, 2008
Images
Hey there. Images look great--thanks for uploading them! A couple of notes to help you so that we're all able to find the images easier...
You'll want to categorize all your images. You can do this by manually adding the categories, or by using shortcut variables in the fair use template. You can either put [[Category:Images from Dying of the Light]] or you can put {{image-screenshot|Dying of the Light=t}} in the fair use template. Even shorter, just do {{image-screenshot|306=t}}.
The other thing I'll mention is that you should basically be looking at three categories: one for the source (the episode), one for the type of image (like Powers Images, Location Images, or Items Images, to name a few), and one for any characters who might appear in the image (like Images of Claire Bennet or Images of Peter Petrelli). All those categories can be added manually or by using shortcut variables, as described above. As well, some images will have multiple categories (like if it shows Peter and Claire together, or if it is a power image that clearly shows the location, too). A few images will not have anything but the episode category.
Finally, you'll want to make most of your images 450x350. It's not required for gallery images, but it sure as heck makes the galleries look good and makes your images a lot more versatile. Also, see what you can do about removing the watermarks. If you can't remove the watermarks without compromising the quality of the image, just mark them to be reuploaded.
I know it's a lot to digest. Just do your best to get the categories on the pages. Also, anything that has a watermark should be marked with {{reupload|watermark=t}}. Anything that needs to be standard size should also be marked for reuploading....Let me know if you need any help or any more explanations. Thanks for all your work, Sam! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:02, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
Okiess, I shall try and make sure the pictures are all that size from now on, and by watermarks do you mean the little HD sign in the corner? --Samstorey 22:22 22 October 2008.
- Great! And yes, that's exactly what I mean by the watermark. By the way, to get your signature, you can either type four tildes ~~~~, or you can click the signature button, which looks like this. Hope that helps...Keep up the good work! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:56, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
Thanks and I will. Im going to update Telepathy, Lightning and Super Strength examples and carry on with super speed because loads of examples are missing. Samstorey 23:19, 22 October 2008
