* I won't have the final numbers until later today, however I'm fairly certain our September revenue is going to be a record breaker...and the new season didn't even start until we were 2/3 through the month! Can't wait to see what happens during our first full month of Heroes. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 01:05, 1 October 2008 (EDT))
* I won't have the final numbers until later today, however I'm fairly certain our September revenue is going to be a record breaker (and with very little expense)...and the new season didn't even start until we were 2/3 through the month! For reference our current record revenue was $784.44 for the month of November 2007. Can't wait to see what happens during our first full month of Heroes. • 2,911 American dollars? Oh my.--Hardvice (talk) 01:20, 1 January 2007 (EST)
    • Yep, American dollars. Google ads aren't cheap.  ;) Plus that doesn't include advertising from previous months. heh. I figured if I'm going to disclose ad revenue I should disclose ad expenses as well to be fair. My hope is that it will become possible to reduce advertising expenses as word-of-mouth advertising increases. Regardless advertising is important for us so I'm going to keep it up so we continue to grow. While we're still in the red I'm going to take the liberty of dedicating as much of the monthly revenue to charity as I want (anywhere from 50%-100%) at the expense of offsetting my advertising costs. I'm hoping ad revenue will increase once Heroes is putting out new episodes again. We're not getting as many visits as we do when new episodes air. Since we make money for impressions as well as clicks (albeit more for clicks) the more visits the better off we'll be. (Admin 01:51, 1 January 2007 (EST))
      • I think that's a very good idea ... I'm curious to see how the clicks increase by the end of January. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:44, 1 January 2007 (EST)
        • You seem to be quite adamant about this site becoming popular... or you are obscenely rich. If it is the first case, I can't but question your motives. Are you really honest about your intentions to keep this site not-for-profit?
          • I suppose realistically you can't believe me if I do say I'm honest about my intentions since if I were dishonest it would be a lie. ;) But anyway, yes, I do plan to keep it not-for-profit. As I said before it would feel inappropriate to use advertising to personally make money off the site; it's the community that makes this wiki what it is, not just me. As discussed before at least 50% of any revenue will go to charity with the remaining revenue helping to pay for advertising costs. Because I also believe in transparency I post revenue, expense, and site statistics so everyone can see exactly what's going on. Fortunately Google's advertising policy does allow me to post ad revenue summary information. In any event, if you don't trust what I say, just watch what I end up doing and in time you'll see. :) (Admin 17:30, 11 January 2007 (EST))

  • I'm assuming the expenses decrease is due to dropping Google Ads? Wow, they're expensive, aren't they? — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:07, 1 March 2007 (EST)
    • That's correct. The expenses are entirely Google Ads. I used some during February (this week for example), but with the popularity of the site already I didn't need to spend nearly as much. (Admin 09:19, 1 March 2007 (EST))

April

Breaking even?

Wow, I think it's great that you are still putting out so much for donations when it appears we aren't even close to breaking even yet...--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:19, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

  • And the cost of the new server isn't even reflected in there. :) That's why recently the percentage of revenue donated has been lower, but I think we're still donating a good deal of the revenue. (Admin 10:31, 2 August 2007 (EDT))

Sept revenue

Good take from this past month.--Bob 14:49, 1 October 2007 (EDT)

Oct 2007 revenue

Very nice take this month. I hope we can keep it going.--MiamiVolts (talk) 09:29, 1 November 2007 (EDT)

  • I was particularly impressed with this month. Hopefully the ratings improve and the writer's strike doesn't last long. (Admin 09:35, 1 November 2007 (EDT))

Nov 2007 revenue

Nice take this month too. Almost $100 more. That's great news!--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:50, 1 December 2007 (EST)

Mar 08 expenses

Is this an April Fool's joke? Awesome.--Bob (talk) 09:50, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

  • No, I don't like April Fool's jokes. Which part is awesome? It seems ok at best to me, but without new episodes airing there's not going to be a ton of activity here like there was at the end of last year. Fortunately once Heroes comes back so will the activity. (Admin 09:55, 1 April 2008 (EDT))
    • I think Bob is referring to the $0.00 cost for expenses. I thought you were including the cost of electricity, so a $0.00 cost is surprising to me too.--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:27, 1 April 2008 (EDT)
      • Expenses could be any number of site costs, but typically I only ever factor in hardware purchases and advertising expenses. In this case there was neither in March. I don't include hosting-related costs because it's not costing me extra to host this one above and beyond the servers I'm already running. (Admin 11:52, 1 April 2008 (EDT))

I don't mean to be rude

But are you not out of pocket almost $9,000? If this is true then I really don't think you should have to pay that much. As you say on this page Heroes Wiki is a community, so you should not be paying that much. If you are then I'm sure there is something we can do about it. I don't think people would mind a small increase in advertisements, there is room to the right. --Skywalkerrbf 12:55, 21 August 2008 (EDT)

  • That's correct, but I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the series stays on the air a few more seasons it should be possible to recover the costs especially with revenue increasing so much each season. The expenses were incurred up front in order to help promote the site and build it out early on, but as you can see expenses are much lower since we're promoted very heavily by word of mouth and we score high in relevent search engine searches. (Admin 13:42, 21 August 2008 (EDT))
    • I know this is a awful thing to say but you are giving a lot on money to charity, whcih would be fine apart from the $9,000 which you are owed. That is a lot of money and I am just worrying that Heroes gets cancelled next week and there is no way for you to get it back. You could not apply for some funding from ABC? They say that they use the wiki so I would think that it would not be too much to ask. --Skywalkerrbf 13:19, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
      • Let me just say I wouldn't have spent that money on the site if I couldn't afford it. I'd like to recoup the expenses as much as possible, but if I don't it will be ok. (Admin 14:31, 21 August 2008 (EDT))
        • Ok as long as can aford it I guess, I bet golfing would cost just as much!--Skywalkerrbf 14:33, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
