Crowded

Wow. This bad boy is very, very, very crowded. What should we do about it? Navs for each individual GN would be ridiculous, but I can't think of anything else.---- 19:52, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

• Obviously we'll do a second-season nav bar, but that doesn't really help this one. Perhaps after the second season or so we could split it into character-specific GN navbars (like all the people that appear in Hana's GNs, or all the people that appear in Ted's GNs), but that wouldn't be for awhile, and it still doesn't help the problem now. We could split it alphabetically, but I don't think that's a good idea either. I don't see a good solution.         • It's not a bad idea to organize it, but it certainly wouldn't make it any smaller--in fact, it would be slightly larger. It would also make it a little harder to find a particular name--rather than checking one alphabetical list, one would have to check two alphabetical lists. Crowded, part 2

• This one looks pretty ridiculous now. You can't even find people in the big mush-up of links. I'm not sure if there's any better solution without somehow categorizing the GN characters. Most of them are so minor that there's no good way to implement the system we have for episodic characters. I kind of like the idea of separate navbars for each of the main character's graphic novels. It would allow us to include "See Also" links to that character's novels, as well. One really neat idea would be to include a (small) graphic novel image of the main character on the left side (where categories would usually go) since we don't really have any GN likenesses of most of the main characters. Something like this:

• It's a big job, but it sounds fine to me. Some initial thoughts--not objections, just things to consider...I suppose the person we would use would be the one listed as the focus on Portal:Issues? Most of them would be pretty clear, but a few stand out. For instance, would all the characters from Maya y Alejandro be listed under "Chandra Suresh-Related Graphic Novel Characters"? Hana's bar would probably be the biggest. Some characters would have more than one bar (Mr. Ellis would be under "Mr. Bennet-Related Graphic Novel Characters" and "Eden-Related Graphic Novel Characters"). Some other concerns: a few bars would be very very small with very little chance of ever growing--for instance, Ted's bar would have the Pharmatech scientist and that's it--I doubt there will be too many more Ted-related GNs. Also, do we do separate bars for the future characters? (Future Hiro, Future Peter, and Future Niki have all been the focus of their own GNs.) • The character picture is definitely optional. However, if we put it outside the bar, I'd rather see it without the blue background, comme ça:

I'd also like to really avoid putting two navbars on any character. Not sure how we could do that. Maybe something like the current characternav, only with categories for each "main" character. As for avoiding the odd ones (like Ted's folks), we could just do the principal cast, Hana, and one for "miscellaneous" novels.--Hardvice (talk) 14:52, 11 October 2007 (EDT)
