In some of the about sections (such as New Orleans, LA, Costa Verda, CA, Cork, Ireland, etc.) there is information about what actually happened, while other articles (such as Odessa, TX, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, CA) have abouts that describe the place itself. Any chance to have a general consensus about this? Maybe have the about sections with information that happened, and put them in stuff such as "Odessa, TX/Season One" with a summary on its main page like we do for characters? Thoughts? --DocM 07:58, 22 January 2008 (EST)

Places and Locations?

I just noticed there's a "locations" portal and a "places" portal.. the names seem to mean the same thing. Perhaps this could the the "Cities" portal or something? :) --Frantik (Talk) 23:17, 3 March 2007 (EST)

  • Some are cities, some are states, and some (in the Graphic Novel version) are even countries. "Location" works well, since the navbar calls them "world locations".--Hardvice (talk) 23:29, 3 March 2007 (EST)
    • I didn't notice the non-cities.. but it still seems a bit funny to me that places means something different than locations *shrug* --Frantik (Talk) 05:15, 4 March 2007 (EST)
      • It is kind of a funny distinction to make, but they should be separated. Just think of "Locations" as "World Locations" (which is how it's listed on template:location) and you'll be fine. :) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:19, 4 March 2007 (EST)
      • It's really just an artifact of site history. Once upon a time, we had locations but not places. We talked about some other names for places, but never came up with anything that fit well and made the distinction clearer. "Sites" was considered, but made it sound like websites.--Hardvice (talk) 14:45, 4 March 2007 (EST)

reorganization

I made an attempt at reorganizing this portal, as it seems confusing the way it is: User:Alexwill/Portal:World_Locations I sepeerate "International Locations" and sorted them by country first, and into "United States Locations" and sorted by state first. It keeps it more regionally organized visually. Any one like the idea? Alex W (talk) 22:32, 25 May 2007 (EDT)

  • You did a nice job, but I don't see anything wrong or confusing with the way it is right now. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:36, 25 May 2007 (EDT)
  • I tend to agree with Ryan ... I don't have a problem with the way it's organized now. That said, it is a tad long, so it wouldn't hurt to split it into two pages, and U.S. vs. international locations is as good a way to split it as any.--Hardvice (talk) 01:43, 26 May 2007 (EDT)
    • It does seem like a good way to split it. Splitting it by season also makes sense. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:52, 26 May 2007 (EDT)

Fictional cities

This is the first time we've been given the name of a fictional city. Costa Verde, California does not exist in reality. (I'm not sure San Cristobal, Honduras exists either.) Should it be added to Portal:World Locations or Portal:Miscellaneous Places? My gut is saying miscellaneous places, since that's what we've done with some other places like Au Co's village, the Central American town, and the Haitian village. However, I'm a bit torn either way, and can see both sides. I just want to get a discussion started. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:05, 26 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Well, I suppose we could just leave it as it is. I guess the majority of people will want to call it a world location, and I'm not quite sure how to say where Costa Verde, California's location is--California? United States? ... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:54, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
