[[Lydia]] looks at a picture of her daughter, [[Amanda]], but is caught by [[Samuel]]. He infers that she is from her family, but Lydia says it's just a part of her past that she'd rather forget. Samuel tells her that the carnival is a safe place for people like them, and that Amanda would be protected if she's gifted. Lydia lies to him and say she's not. Samuel finally leaves, but Lydia has a surprising encounter: her daughter has found her.
[[Lydia]] looks at a picture of her daughter, [[Amanda]], but quickly hides it away when [[Samuel]] approaches. Samuel is angry with Lydia and tells her to show it to him. He then grabs her arm and reveals a [[tattoo]] of Amanda hidden on Lydia's arm. Samuel then asks Lydia what secrets she has been keeping. Lydia tells Samuel of Amanda and Samuel attempts to discover if Amanda is [[evolved human|special]]. Lydia denies that she is and then claims that she doesn't want to get to know Amanda as her real family is [[Sullivan Bros. Carnival|the carnival]].

Samuel accepts this and leaves. Lydia then drops her "tough act" and turns around. She is shocked to see Amanda standing in a doorway, having heard the conversation. Amanda smiles sadly and says "Hi mom".

Summary

Synopsis

Lydia looks at a picture of her daughter, Amanda, but quickly hides it away when Samuel approaches. Samuel is angry with Lydia and tells her to show it to him. He then grabs her arm and reveals a tattoo of Amanda hidden on Lydia's arm. Samuel then asks Lydia what secrets she has been keeping.
