The pneumatic syringe is a medical instrument designed for injecting radioisotopes into animals for tracking purposes. The Company uses the device to inject tracking isotopes into evolved humans they have captured. The device leaves the mark on individuals who have received the injection.

In a cabin in the desert, Hana shows Ted blueprints for the needle.

Ted travels to Billings, MT, and forces his way into the Pharmatech Industrial Building. Inside a room stockpiled with the weapon, Ted is confronted by a Pharmatech scientist who wields one at him in. Ted takes control and demands information about the hypo gun. The scientist tells Ted that the gun is used to inject wild animals with a radioactive isotope that allows them to be tracked. Ted, infuriated, burns down the building.
Unexpected
Hana shows Ted blueprints for the needle. Later, the two of them meet in a cemetery with Matt Parkman and show the device to him, explaining what it does.
Notes
- The pneumatic syringe has also been called a "hypo gun" and a "needle".
- Though Ted Sprague learns from the Pharmatech scientist that the pneumatic syringe is used to track animals, he still believes that his radioactive ability has been foisted upon him, ultimately causing his wife's death.
