Character History
Niki grew up with her abusive adoptive father, Hal Sanders and her younger yet protective adoptive sister, Jessica. In a drunken rage Hal killed Jessica, and a traumatic Niki subdued the memory as a child. Years later Niki met and married D.L. Hawkins and they had a son, Micah. Niki's manifestation of her ability brought on a split personality, one to be “the strong one" as Niki’s mind wasn't strong enough to handle it. The first alter-ego to manifest named itself Jessica, attributing itself as a protector as Niki's deceased sister once was. Jessica was responsible for the murders of many others, so Niki turned herself into the authorities to protect her family. Jessica made a deal with Daniel Linderman to be his assassin in exchange for her release. Jessica claimed everything she was doing was to protect Niki and Micah. When Linderman and Candice took Micah, Jessica and D.L. went to New York to find Linderman. Linderman offered Jessica 20 million dollars to kill D.L. and to leave Micah. Jessica claimed she would kill D.L. for the money but Niki wouldn’t and she let Niki regain control. Niki then went looking for Micah and found him with Candice who was pretending to be Jessica. Once learning the truth Niki knocked Candice out with her new found ability. After Niki successfully integrated with Jessica and learned that she had incredible strength, another alter-ego manifested, Gina. This personality's “fun times” in Los Angeles ended up getting D.L. shot and killed. Horrified, Niki sought out treatment and left Micah in the hands of D.L.'s relatives, the Dawson’s. Once The Company helped her integrate her alter-egos she became an agent for them, working with Mohinder Suresh. When Maury Parkman manipulated her mind she injected herself with the Shanti Virus, which left her powerless. Now, she was mentally healthy and she returned to Micah. She explained to Micah why she went to the Company. After D.L.’s medal is stolen Micah wants them to be heroes and get it back. Niki told Micah that they can’t be heroes because that’s what got D.L. killed. She then found out that Monica, the relative in care of Micah, was kidnapped by a gang member trying to retrieve the medal. Niki successfully saved Monica, but in doing so, became trapped in a burning building, and was killed when it exploded.
Evolved Human Abilities
Niki possessed enhanced strength. She was strong enough to knock down doors and other obstacles with a single hit, throw people several feet across a room, and literally rip people in half. For months, she could only utilize her power through her alternate personality, Jessica, who is much more violent than her normal self. Jessica used the ability in a variety of crimes ranging from robberies to brutal murders. Eventually, Niki finally learned how to use her enhanced strength at will. While infected with the Shanti Virus, Niki could no longer access her ability.
