Interview talk:Blackout
Interview with Jason and Mark
This is just a little premature, but I wanted to get everybody thinking about it. Jason Badower and Mark Sable have agreed to do an combined interview. We will be doing a conference call on Tuesday evening, September 11, at 8 pm EST. Questions should focus mostly on the Blackout series, but I don't think there's any harm in other peripheral questions. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:02, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
- Just to let everybody know, both Jason and Mark are ready to go tomorrow night (at 8 pm EST). All three of us are really looking forward to this interview, me especially....If you have any last minute questions after Blackout, Part 2 is released tomorrow morning, don't forget to post them below before 8 pm. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:50, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
- WHEW! Well, we just got off the phone, a little more than an hour after we started talking. I had a feeling Jason and Mark would have no shortage of words. :) To give you all some perspective, my phone interviews are normally about 20 minutes, and take forever to type up. So this interview might take some time to be transcribed. I'll get started shortly. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:09, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
- I've got minor surgery tomorrow, so I'm going to bed. I'll get the other 45 minutes done when I get a chance. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:46, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
- The interview looks great so far. Hope your surgery goes well.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:01, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
- I have a feeling this is going to be an interesting interview since it's apparently the first time Mark and Jason have spoken in person and there are sure to be some interesting impromptu moments. Hope your surgery goes uneventfully. (Admin 01:40, 12 September 2007 (EDT))
- Thanks, guys. Yeah, the interview was fun, but it's mostly them talking. I was like a fly on the wall, if you couldn't tell from the overall tone just in the first 10 minutes. They're great guys, and both have a lot to say about their work, which is nice. I can't wait to post it--hopefully later tonight or maybe tomorrow. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 05:49, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Interview Questions
- Mark, how did you prepare / what insight did you get from the Heroes people for writing the GN series?
* Jason, will you be coloring this or will Annette be? If you are, will your darker color schemes work with the aptly-named title of the series?--Bob 16:36, 22 August 2007 (EDT) This kind of got answered.--Bob 06:02, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
- Any idea when Blackout occurs timeline-wise? --DocM 08:51, 4 September 2007 (EDT)
- Jason, you mentioned in your blog how you don't like sound effects. Do you dislike "power-related" sound-effects or just effects in general when you draw? (My personal favorite)--Bob 06:02, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
- Mark, you sort of allude to this in your post at the 9thwonders.com boards. My questions for both of you regard the scripts for these GNs, the others you (Jason) did, and other non-Heroes related works in general. How long is it, words and page wize? How much of it is directions for the artist and/or scene and action description? How much makes it to the finished product? Are you two at liberty to divulge an excerpt of any script/bit of GN that can illustrate the answers to the previous questions?--SacValleyDweller 18:58, 5 September 2007 (EDT)
- When thinking of graphic novel characters like the dying patient, how do you relate the power of electromagnetism to him? Is there a certain time, when when writing them, that you match up a power with their personality?--Jason Garrick (talk) 21:18, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
- Did Mark send Jason a finished script all at once, or was it piecemealed (page by page?) to him? Did Mark see the finished work before it got sent in?--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:31, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
- Did the teenage patient cause all the blackouts or just the last one? How did the virus affect his power?
- Talking points: fan reactions; "shoonk"; collaboration
- In the graphic novels (Walls, Part 1) and (Walls, Part 2), Heroes fans were introduced to a new character who had the power of Electromagnetism at the Moab Federal Penitentiary(2 years in the future). Is there any connection between him, and your new hospital patient from (Blackout, Part 1)? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/8/2007 23:34 (EST)
- If you just meant if they are the same person, Mark already answered this question on 9th wonders here...it's a no. It's gonna be tough for Ryan to get more out of him than about the character than that, but I guess he could ask if the agent from Walls is his father, brother or close-cousin and confirm it's none-of-the-above as I already suspect it is.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:21, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
- In Part2, Mohinder says, "I learned I had a sister with remarkable abilities, and...the disease which claimed her life...yesterday I found someone else with the same disease....I was wrong on all counts." Does that mean he was wrong in the disease claiming Shanti's life and she is alive? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/11/2007 10:08 (EST)
- In Part2, can you expand on what specifically caused Mohinder to say, "Oh my God, It's you"....and who he recognized the electro-patient to be? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 09/11/2007 10:08 (EST)
- (That was Mohinder coming to the realization that the blackouts were being caused by the patient) (Admin 10:26, 11 September 2007 (EDT))

- How does it feel to have worked on the 50th graphic novel? Any sentiments on reaching this milestone? Does the Primatech agent actually fire at Mohinder or just point his gun? Can you confirm that is the same rental car Mohinder used to visit Zane and Dale, and if it is still drivable after this accident? If not driveable, are you assuming he has OnStar or is he stuck in the middle of nowhere?--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:15, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
- OK, here's one - did you have any guidance on how to draw the new (or, presumably, recently promoted) Company agent from Part two? For example, a photo reference, perhaps? Of, maybe, an actor? Love the work, Ultraexactzz 19:38, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
- "You're the leading research hospital in..."
Question for Ryan
Are they illustrating different issues, or are they contributing together to make the entire series? I'm a little confused since Mark hasn't done anything yet for Heroes, so I was unfamiliar with him. Thanks.--Bob 15:43, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
- The story is two parts. Mark wrote the whole thing and Jason is illustrating the whole thing. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:21, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks.--Bob 16:36, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
Transcribing
- If you want, Ryan, I'll add links and such after you put in the text from the interview. I'm free until 4:15pm when I leave for work.--Bob 14:08, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks Bob, I really appreciate your support. I'm actually leaving for the dentist in about 10 minutes, so I'm not going to be transcribing until later. I'm not sure how I'll be feeling later this afternoon/evening, but hopefully I'll get some done tonight (if not the whole thing, fingers crossed). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:22, 12 September 2007 (EDT)
- Sounds good. Have fun at the dentist.--Bob 14:28, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

- Okay, the text is finished. If somebody would like to add pictures, that'd be great. Otherwise, I'll add them tomorrow. Right now, I'm going to bed. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:20, 14 September 2007 (EDT)
