Theory Citations Notes
Gretchen Berg knew about Claire's abilities, so she murdered Annie to see if Claire can heal by telling her about the Jump, Push, Fall theory. Which she was lead by Samuel. In Jump, Push, Fall Gretchen watches Claire fall. + Claire couldn't find the suicide note in the first place because it was put there by Gretchen after Claire left.
- That is as much speculation as the theory in itself.

+ Gretchen seemed very obsessed over Annie's supposed murder.

- Not necessarily a plus for the theory.

- Gretchen could have easily figured out an easier way to see if Claire could heal than killing her room mate and suggesting that Claire threw herself out of a window to see if she'd heal.
- What about when Claire conducted the test and found that Annie jumped?

Gretchen Berg has the ability to control people's emotions, and that was what made Annie jump with it to be Claire's roommate. She seems a little off and obsessive. + Claire said she couldn't find a suicide note. So someone could have put one there to make it look like a suicide.
- And how exactly that means Gretchen is the one who did it though the use of an ability?

+ She is very happy and obsessive to hang out with Claire.

- Or she could simply be a bit off.

+ This could explain her closeness with Claire.
+ This may mean that Gretchen might be a carnival member like Samuel. In Orientation and Jump, Push, Fall, Samuel finds people with abilities. This would make a perfect plot for Gretchen's sudden interest in Claire.

Gretchen Berg has an ability to learn things quickly. None. + She said she was getting better at Guitar Hero with every second.

+ When she was explaining the Jump, Push, Fall theory to Claire she threw the orange really far on her third example.

- How does orange-throwing aptitute implicates she learns things quickly?
Every action you do is one you learn. She demonstrated learning through repetition and threw that orange much further, surprising even herself.
- Anyone with basic motor skills can throw an orange.

+ It makes perfect sense for the Guitar Hero event. Which would also make sense for her sudden interest in Claire. With this ability she's probably able to know Claire has an ability just be learning about her.

- Learning Claire through an enhanced learning ability makes no sense, not if her supposed learning works like it's supposedly did with the Guitar Hero.
+ On the contrary, Gretchen may have her power since she was younger. Since Gretchen was from Texas like Claire was. Gretchen may have met Claire before. Gretchen may have met Claire and not known her personally. Like a class mate. Not everybody befriends every class mate. They probably talked a few times. Claire wouldn't remember her cause not everybody remembers their class mate that they don't hang out with, and for the fact now that their in college, Gretchen could of changed her looks [dyed hair, lost weight, longer hair..etc.]
- If her ability is learning things while doing them, like in the Guitar Hero scene, it makes absolutely no sense for her to learn about Claire's ability with her own ability. Claire's ability is an information she acquired, learning like she did with Guitar Hero is a skill, it doesn't work the same way.
+ For all we know in Texas Gretchen probably didn't go by the name Gretchen but by another name. She could of changed her last name as well. This would make since if she as an ability. She was probably hunted down before by a unknown source that the company doesn't know about. The company didn't know every single people with ability and they didn't know every single hunter. This would also make perfect sense if she was a carnival member along side Samuel.
- There may be evolved humans who were never discovered, and therefore were never hunted down.
- Nothing indicates a connection with Samuel and his carnival.

+ She may have not been discovered by the company and other people without abilities, but they could of been an unknown group of people hunting them down. Like the company who was unnoticed by the outside people, these hunters are unnoticed by the company and the outside people which would make perfect sense for unknown hunters not known by anyone other than their victims. Remember people with abilities are always going to be hunted down by someone, either Bennett, Danko, or someone else we don't know about.

- It doesn't mean every evolved human will always be hunted down.
Gretchen Berg might be related to Zach, Claire's best friend. She's obsessive with Claire. + She has a obsessive blog about her. Had pictures that obviously seem like home pictures that Zach might have since he's her best friend.
- She knows about the incident at Homecoming, she doesn't have a blog about her.

- Obsession isn't a sign of relation.

Gretchen was a part of Annie's death because she wanted to be Claire's roommate. She may have wanted to be her roommate because she somehow knew something about Claire's ability before. None + She knows about the homecoming incident and seems really interested in the circumstances of Annie's death.
- If she was involved, doing anything about the incident would draw unwanted attention.
+ Actually, it's quite common for guilty people to get involved, because they act innocent.

- When Claire jumped from her window to demonstrate the "Jump, Push, Fall" theory, she discovered that Annie fell in a way where she had to jump.

Gretchen is actually from California and dated April. None + Her comments about cheerleaders is not unlike that of the Costa Verde crew.
- Jackie Wilcox and Debbie Marshall are not the only bitchy cheerleaders, look at the ones at Betty's school.

+ It may turn out that she moved to Costa Verde after what happened to Claire.
+ This could be a way for the writers to mention April as a former lover of Gretchen.

- April is an insignificant character who didn't even have lines.
April may not be lesbian at all, since her sexual orientation was only mentioned once in a spoiler.
+ Press releases confirm a lesbian cheerleader for Season 2.

- She has never been seen at any of Claire's schools.
+ How large are those schools, like a thousand students each? Besides Gretchen is highly likely to have had at least one girlfriend at this point of her life.

Gretchen Berg is a "pusher" like Eric Doyle and used her ability to make Annie jump out of the window. None. + Gretchen's obsession with Claire may have led to a desire to become closer to her, and becoming Claire's roommate would be an excellent way to make that happen. She may have been unaware of Claire's ability at the time, her interest being the result of recognizing Claire's name from the homecoming incident and an innate desire to be near important people.
- This doesn't suggest Gretchen has any powers.
Gretchen Berg has a power of belief induction. She used this ability to make Annie kill herself.

+ Gretchen could have used this ability to make the female detective believe the "suicide" note was found on Annie's pillow, when Gretchen could have simply handed it to her. This would account for Claire not having seen the note when she first entered the room.

Gretchen will be like Zach and lose her memories of Claire. None + Claire confided in Zach in Season One and when Noah found out, he had the Haitian wipe his memories.
The writers created Gretchen because of the bisexual Zach and what happened with lesbian April. None, + The show has been critised because Zach was originally gay, but they changed to unsure.

+ The show promised a gay character and the actress who played April left.
+ There has been a rise in interest in lesbian characters since Willow Rosenberg, from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.

Gretchen has the power of persuasion. None.
