| Matt's marriage has ended due to Matt realizing the child is not his. | Matt said as much. (The Kindness of Strangers). | • While the question of the baby's paternity was the stated reason for their break-up, the nightmare sequence with the accusing Janice seemed to show that the baby may be Matt's and Matt may know it. (Fight or Flight) |
| Matt and Janice may be actively denying Matt's paternity to protect their child. | Matthew was in hiding with his mother in an alternate future that splintered after his conception. | + Janice accused Matt of abandoning them in Matt's nightmare scenario. + Matt knows the child will be in danger from the Company from his own experiences of being abducted and held prisoner by them. |
| Matt will become more powerful than Maury or the Dark Future Matt. | None. | + In the dark future, Matt can only read minds (and possibly access memories). Already he is able to insert thoughts into others minds, and he trapped Maury in his own nightmare. (Out of Time) + Matt has already started to develop his powers into more than just reading minds. |
| Matt will become a villain in Volume Three. | None. | + When Matt tries to force the name and location of Victoria Pratt out of Angela Petrelli, she remarks that if he succeeds, he is not just like his father: he is him. Seeing as he got the name in the end, it may be strongly implied that Matt will be tempted to become a villian like his father. (Cautionary Tales)
- Matt does not seem to be very villainous in the exposed future.
|
| Matt is a clone of Maury Parkman. | They both have the same ability. | + Very few other characters have the same- or even similar- abilities as their parents.
- Matt still has his hair, while Maury is balding.
|
| Matt is able to read the minds of animals. | A turtle seemed to speak to Matt to tell him where he could find water | - The voice Matt heard ended up being Usutu.
|
| Matt can access other heroes powers. | The episode One of Us, One of Them | + He uses Usutu's powers to paint the future on a rock - Both Matt and Usutu gained the power by eating the drug. Usutu doesn't actually have the power.
- Matt's vision may have been Usutu extending his ability. It seems unlikely that a drug can induce visions of the future if one's power isn't precognition already. Isaac Mendez initially had to take drugs to activate his precognitive ability; Usutu might have discovered his the same way and think Matt must also use something in order to share the power.
|
| Matt can kill with his ability. | He implied this to Knox. | + Bob said that whatever the brain controls, Matt can control.
+ The good side needs some more offensive abilities, if they are supposed to defeat the villains. - Having wit/smarts can be just as effective or more effective than an offensive ability. |
