Theories

Theory Citations Notes
Niki, Tracy, Barbara, and possibly others are experiments created by the Linderman operated Company through the Pinehearst Company. Each of the children created were given powers through use of the formula that Kaito entrusted to Hiro to protect. Linderman claims to Niki that he has been guiding her entire life. (The Hard Part)
Angela claims to Tracy that the Company gave her and her sisters powers. (One of Us, One of Them)
+ Jessica and Tracy have different abilities.

+ Tracy works with Pinehearst.
- Linderman's company and Pinehearst seem to be rivals.

The reporter knew about Tracy's ability before she froze him. None + The reporter stated he was considering running the story under the headline "Ice Queen Heats up Las Vegas".
- "Ice Queen" can refer to her personality.
- It could have merely been foreshadowing on the part of the writers.

- It would be impossible for the reporter to know about Tracy's ability before she knew about it, and from the look of shock on her face, this may have been the first time it had manifested.

The "Tracy" in Angela's dream is not really Tracy but Barbara. None. + Dr.Zimmerman mistook Tracy for Barbara.

+ The woman in Angela's dream was not wearing Tracy's signature pearls, which so far, we haven't seen Tracy without.

- She has stopped wearing the pearls.

The scene in question was created for Season Two and it is unknown if Tracy was an established character at that time.
+ At this point, Tracy does not seem like the kind of person that would become evil.

- She joined Arthur's team in It's Coming.
+ Just because she joined Arthur's team does not automatically make her a cold-blooded killer. She may think that by joining Arthur she is changing the world for the better.
- Lots of villains in the series think they are changing the world for the better (Adam Monroe, Arthur Petrelli, etc.).
There was no evidence that the woman in Angela's dream was a cold-blooded killer.

+ No one in Angela's dream seemed to be frozen.

Tracy can survive cold environments. None. + Since her ability is to freeze things, she may also be able to survive a cold environment without needing warm clothing on.
+ Meredith is able to survive hot environments due to her ability.
+ Her hand was not cold after freezing Nathan's drink.
She may need to be continuously freezing something in order to not get cold.
Niki's, Tracy's and Barbara's biological parents are Company founders. None. + Many of the main characters are descended from Company founders. Linderman revealed that he had been manipulating Niki and D.L. for most of their lives in order for them to have a child like Micah. Arthur and Maury appear to be manipulating Nathan and Tracy into being together.
Tracy must touch an object in order to freeze it. None. + Tracy has never frozen anything from a distance; she has always had to touch the object.
- She is close to making it a projectile much how Elle and Peter can with lightning. You can see this with how she holds her hand similarly to Peter and Elle with frost coming off of it when she feels threatened by Mohinder. (Eris Quod Sum)
- Peter has suggested that she could in Trust and Blood, when she would be unable to get close enough to Nathan. While talking with Nathan, Tracy does summon frost in her hand once more.

Tracy may not have fully learned the full extent of her power yet.
Sylar seemed to have to touch an object in order to freeze it, too, as seen in The Hard Part. However, in Road Kill he freezes road without doing this.
- Tracy froze an entire room without touching it with her "cold snap."

Tracy, Barbara and Niki aren't actually triplets, but clones of the original. None. - If that was so, it wouldn't explain how two of them have vastly different powers, considering powers have roots in blood chemistry, and that triplets have the same DNA.
Being triplets does not explain this either, then.
+ Dr. Zimmerman said that he created Tracy.
- He may not have meant that he literally created Tracy herself; he may have just meant he created the person that she is, i.e., a person with an ability. He may have just given her the ability to freeze.
Identical triplets don't have identical DNA just very similar DNA.
No, they do have identical DNA. They come from the same fertilized egg (zygote).
Genetic mutations happen before the identical twins separate, (1 to 4 days after the fertilization) and it may cause their DNAs to be slightly different.
In the future in which everyone had powers, Tracy was the one who wanted to release the formula to the general public, not Nathan and Arthur. None. + Arthur and Nathan wanted to give it to the marines, but it is shown in What We Have Wrought that Tracy wants Suresh to recreate the formula so it may be given to everyone.

- Arthur and Nathan both clearly state that they want to give everyone abilities on several occasions.
- The amount of influence Tracy would require to actually make sure everyone received abilities wouldn't be possible, especially with Nathan, a U.S senator combating her.

Tracy may not have died in Cold Snap. Her shattered pieces winked and shed a tear in the end. + Her power may have similar properties to that of water mimicry, whereas she may be able to reform after turning into a substance form.
She was subjected to a great amount of heat for a long period of time. Hypothetically her ability may have adapted and grown in power, allowing for her to perform previously unseen effects.

+ The Marvel superhero Iceman, who possesses an ability similar to Tracy's is able to turn his body into "organic ice", and and can regrow body parts that have been damaged or shattered.
+ Tracy's ability could be ice mimicry, not freezing.
+ Unlike Tracy's victims who were shattered, who all had 'blood stained' ice as they shattered, Tracy herself was completely frozen, perhaps indicating that she wasn't susceptible to her own powers in the same way.
+ As she was in control of her eye, able to make it shed a tear (or wink), it indicates that she didn't die.
+ Tracy's shattered body was (conveniently) placed right over a drain cover. This is perhaps an indication of how she could melt away, and then perhaps reform, as she still seemed to be alive (as explained above).
+ Ability immunity?

Tracy is not immune to her ability. Becoming transparent, apparently organic, ice can only be an evolution of power or second ability (like Marvel Comics "Second Mutation".

+ On the contrary, Tracy is immune to her ability. When she freezes things, her hands "aren't even cold." It seems far more likely that she froze herself intentionally to avoid capture, especially, as it seems to be, that she can maintain control over herself even after being frozen and shattered.
+ Bryan Fuller in the episode commentary for the episode Cold Snap on NBC's website said that the production team wanted to make it very clear to the viewers that Tracy was not dead. She winked and slipped away into the drain. He said this because Heroes had been accused of characters dying "without consequence" in the past and he did not want that stigma any longer.

Tracy will come back as some sort of ice elemental. Her shattered pieces winked, shed a tear and slid down a drain to escape. + She could still move as a being made compleatly of ice.
