Head games ensue as Matt extracts the truth from HRG -- Emmy award winner Zeljko Ivanek and Brea Grant guest-star -- While being held hostage, HRG (Jack Coleman) is subjected to Matt Parkman’s (Greg Grunberg) unique brand of interrogation, revealing how he became involved with Nathan’s (Adrian Pasdar) government plot to capture those with abilities. Meanwhile, Matt’s discoveries bring Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) face-to-face with “The Hunter” (guest star Zeljko Ivanek). Sendhil Ramamurthy and Cristine Rose also star. Ashley Crow also guest stars.

  • Matt mentally interrogates Noah Bennet for crucial information while Mohinder and Peter look on.
    • This information could be the location of Matt's ex-wife, Janice, and their son, Matthew, or the true whereabouts of Daphne, who is believed to be kidnapped, possibly dead.
  • Nathan will capture Noah and Matt, and will torture them, to find out where the others hide.
  • Matt will finally be able to "see" people's thoughts, and will see Sandra in Noah's head.
    • Matt will discover Sandra and/or Lyle being kidnapped by Nathan or Homeland Security - this being the persuasion needed to lure HRG to work to capture the Heroes.
  • It will be revealed that Daphne survived being shot and is currently being held in a prison.
  • Daphne will appear as an illusion to Matt, similarly to Usutu.
  • It will be revealed that HRG has powers.
    • HRG will have ability of Omnilingualism.
    • Noah has a freezing ability, hence the title of the episode.
    • HRG has a mental power, so Matt can search his head.
    • Matt will state, after searching through HRG's head, that HRG does not have an ability.
  • The title refers to The Cold War which was the state of conflict between USA and USSR from 1940s to 1990s in which both sides spent time in building defences with periods of extreme tension and relative calm.
  • The title refers to Matt seeking through HRG's minds - Matt's not hurting him nor vice-versa, like the Cold War.
  • More of HRG's past will be revealed, revealing that he hates people with powers.
  • Mohinder will be captured in this episode, hence Sendhil not appearing in the next two episodes.
  • Matt will discover HRG and The Hunter were old friends since The Company.
  • Bob, Claude and Kaito will appear in flashback sequences.
