Do we really need pages for past characters? Just wondering. -- Psilaq R.- \m/ -_- \m/-

  • This is a reoccuring past character of a significant cast member. We have several pages for future characters, it shouldn't be of any less importance. Young Hiro has appeared in 6 episodes and 1 graphic novel...he really want's his own page, Yatta!!! --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/26/2009 17:26 (EST)
    • I think future characters have their own pages because they are from alternate futures (the key word being "alternate"). Then again, the young Hiros that were shown via time travel are slightly alternate to present-day Hiro. The problems with this view is that we can't be sure which timeline Company Man and Past Experience showed us, and that these Hiros seem to turn out the same way as the main Hiro, much like the two Claire Bennet (exposed future)s (from The Second Coming and I Am Become Death). - Josh (talk/contribs) 17:43, 26 January 2009 (EST)
      • I'm calling an admin to shut this page down. It was said several times that these type of pages wouldn't be created.--Citizen 17:49, 26 January 2009 (EST)
        • I agree, I don't think we need this page. Pages about future characters exist because those future characters don't exist once the future changes. Hiro Nakamura (explosion future) ceased to exist once the future changed and the explosion occurred differently, and Hiro Nakamura (exposed future) ceased to exist once the formula was destroyed. Those pages chronicle those no-longer-existing characters. Hiro as a child continues to exist. He grew up to be Hiro Nakamura, and changes to the future will change that. Plus, if we start making pages for "past" characters, where do we draw the line? Hiro once went back in time a few minutes. Do we make a page for that "past" Hiro? What about when he went back two hours? A few days? Months? Years? Centuries? (Yes, he's done all of those.) I think we only need to limit alternate character pages to future versions of those characters, not past versions. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:26, 26 January 2009 (EST)
          • But this is an actual character...a person who is different that Masi Oki. A person who has lines, interaction with others in the show, and is unique to the show. Because of time travel, we know they are a younger version of Hiro; however they are still an active member of the cast who has been uniquely and specifically explored in 6 episodes and one graphic novel...and may very well continue to occassionally appear in future episodes. This specific Hiro has aldready done unique things apart and separate from present hiro, and along with present hiro. We don't have pages for all of the various future people; but for the main ones who've had a unique role we do. This young hiro shouldn't be any different. He is a part of the show. He is cannon. And he is not fullgrown, present-day hiro. He deserves his own page and documentation. Flo has her own page; and is way much less significant of a contribution to the Heroesverse that this young Hiro character; but we have many pages of insignificant and pass-through characters like Flo. Young Hiro is a much more developed character, and should have a page documenting his involvement with the show; since it has been more than a passing blip. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/26/2009 22:09 (EST)
            • The page about Hiro Nakamura is not a page about Masi Oka, but about Hiro Nakamura, from his birth until the present. All of his history should be included on that page, not on separate pages. I agree, the character is from canon sources--and his history is important. Essential, even. It belongs at Hiro Nakamura#Character History. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:12, 26 January 2009 (EST)
              • But what you've said is the same for all future Hiro's as well. Yet they are unique enough, and 'separate entities ' like Young Hiro; that they merit their own pages...and it makes sense. Putting all of the unique stuff about Young Hiro into a single Hiro page wouldn't organize well or look very good. It is concise, neat, and clear in it's own page. Any substantial Heroes character should have their own page, when the info for that character is unique to that character. The show went to the trouble to uniquely define, present, and develop Young Hiro as a special, unique character that was differentiated from present Hiro and it creates no harm to the wiki to differentiate that unique contribution IMO. Or we can just go and look at Flo's page, and appreciate her great contribution that does merit a unique page (a litle sarcastic humor) --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/26/2009 22:29 (EST)
  • Hiro and Young Hiro are the same person. If Young Hiro got cut, Hiro would have a scar on his arm. But if Future Hiro, or any incarnation of him, got cut, it would have no lasting effect on any other incarnation of him. So making past character pages would clog up the wiki and they are unnecessary. Should we create a "Young Elle Bishop" because she said she started a fire when she was 6? No. So why should it be this way for Hiro. And Claire found herself in the same situation as Hiro, and I don't see a "Young Claire" page. -- Tristan0709 talk 22:36, 26 January 2009 (EST)
    • Right. Future incantations of characters are not part of the character's history, but part of the character's possible futures. A character's past should be included on the character's page. One stop shopping. If we create a page for "childhood past", does that include his teenage years? His young adulthood? What he was like two years ago? It's not a unique character--it's all one big history that makes up who Hiro is today. And it's not neat and organized--I find it confusing (and I'm sure newbies to the site would too) to have to go to another page to find a character's history. It's already bad enough that we have so many future character pages. I hate them. But they're a necessary evil since the actions of those characters are technically not part of the present characters. Matt is not a jerk in charge of DHS (see Matt Parkman (explosion future)), and he's not a homebody married to Daphne (see Matt Parkman (exposed future)). But everything that did happen to young Hiro is part of Present Hiro's history.... I'm not sure what any of that has to do with Flo, though. :) I don't think anybody's contesting the importance of Hiro's history and actions, be it when he was young or older. I don't think anybody is saying that we should ignore Hiro's past because it is unimportant and insignificant. I think people (well, me at least) are saying that we should include that history where it belongs--in Hiro's history. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:00, 26 January 2009 (EST)
  • IAWTP. But don't let this turn into that. -- Tristan0709 talk 23:23, 26 January 2009 (EST)

New idea about the info from the Young Hiro page

I just had a new idea this morning...since this idea of a Young Hiro page has gone over like a lead baloon, how about changing the idea behind it to a fan creation page...something like "Alternate Hiros" which focuses on documenting and presenting all of the various "versions" of Hiro that have been introduced because of the anomoly caused by his Space-time manipulation ability. It would show the stuff on young hiro, as well as the alternate future hiros, and be a page that can grow in the future as new alternate Hiros come and go that make significant and unique contributions. (I'll bet there will eventually be an old-man Hiro as well). Would this idea work and be palatable to the tribe? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/27/2009 10:12 (EST)
