John Hancock, also known as simply "Hancock", is an evolved human drunkard who plays the role of a reluctant superhero in Los Angeles. Despite saving countless lives, his hedonistic lifestyle and his reckless "heroism" has cost the city millions of dollars in property damages, and has rendered him unfavorable in the public eye. However, upon saving the life of PR spokesperson Ray Embrey, he is encouraged to turn over a new leaf by Ray and gain the respect of Los Angeles.

Evolved Human Abilities

Hancock and others of his kind are unique in that they possess several innate abilities. The most apparent of Hancock's abilities are impenetrable skin, enhanced strength, and flight. Hancock was also able to travel to the moon with the help of lung adaptation and paint Ray's All-Heart logo on it with chromakinesis. His regeneration abilities also allow him to become immortal.

It is revealed that Hancock and others like him, such as Mary Embrey, were "built" in male and female pairs several millenia ago. When the members of these pairs become close, either physically or emotionally, they begin to lose their powers so that they can lead a normal, mortal life with their destined mate.

When Hancock battles with Mary, an abnormal storm in downtown Los Angeles occurs. It is unknown if this is one of Hancock's powers, Mary's powers, or a byproduct of the pair dueling.
