New user help

I have left the standard new user stuff below in case anyone needs it.

Here are a few links to get you started:

  • If you are new to Heroes, you might want to start at the New User Portal.
  • If you're not too familiar with editing Wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
  • If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style.
  • If you're ready to get started, Template:Todo lists some ways you can help out.
  • Of course, if you have your own idea for a new article, that's great, too.
  • Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
    • To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the Summary field before you save your changes.
    • You can set the Wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
  • When posting on an article's Talk page you should add ~~~~ or click the signature button.
    • This will add a signature and timestamp to the end of your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
    • When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
  • If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for an administrator.
  • You can also customize your user page if you like.
  • If you want to track your subpages, the quick and dirty way is to check Category:User subpages. The longer (but more thorough) way is to check prefixes with your name. Go to Special:Prefixindex, check "User" as the namespace (instead of Main), then type in "MiamiVolts" or whatever your username is. Here's the results of searching for my subpages. Anything you want deleted can be marked with the afd template. Kudos to RyanGibsonStewart (talk) for providing me with this information!

Once again, welcome to Heroes Wiki!

Summary for the Hard Part

  • Because it's going to appear on the Main Page, the Summary section should avoid major episode spoilers. I made a few edits to reflect this.--Hardvice (talk) 00:45, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

Your group articles....

....Are pretty neat. Keep up the hard work! --Heroe!(talk) (contribs) 17:42, 17 May 2007 (EDT)

  • Thanks, sorry if I overwrote anything on the Anti-tracker alliance article... I was updating the character histories.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:54, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
  • Up for an article about the SWAT? --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 20:01, 7 July 2007 (EDT)
    • I don't like the idea of one SWAT cause there isn't just one. Each police force and also the FBI can have a SWAT team.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:59, 7 July 2007 (EDT)

IMDb Heroes board

Do you still post there? I stopped ever since they had nothing but critisism :(. You seemed to be one of the few that defended the show. --Heroe!(talk) (contribs) 23:59, 26 May 2007 (EDT)

  • I'm hoping that the summer break will weed out most of the negativity and just leave the people who like the show enough to stick around.--raffi_freak 23:33, 26 May 2007 (EDT)
    • Oh, so MistressMerr is raffi_freak! :D --Luke234(talk) (contribs) 00:08, 27 May 2007 (EDT)
      • I still post there occassionally. My current project is to finish the future groups, and then I plan to write a quixotic theories post for season 2. If you read my season 1 theories post, I came pretty close to predicting what happened through the end of the season way back in December.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:19, 27 May 2007 (EDT)

Candy Ice

Thanks for taking care of the misspelling of Candice everywhere. Good work.--Bob 04:00, 30 May 2007 (EDT)

  • You're welcome. It needed to be done. Too bad there isn't a way for non-admin to rename the image files or I'd of done those too.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:42, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
    • There's no way to rename an image file, whether you're an admin or not. An image file would need to be deleted (which I guess only admins can do, but non-admins can use the afd template) and then reuploaded with the correct name. But the only reason this would need to be done is if the name is so misleading that it would be worth getting rid of the history and previous uploads ... or if it's so poorly misspelled that it really bugs me. :) RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:58, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
      • Thank you for doing all the respellings -- it sure is nice to have her name spelled the same throughout most of the site. However, we should remember that her name was spelled both ways on screen (see the list), so there's a contradiction between sources. No file names would need to be changed. I am glad to have some consistency, however. RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:08, 31 May 2007 (EDT)
        • Kudos on the help references. I do remember that her name was spelled both ways: I left the pages regarding the list alone (they still have the old name). As for doing the images, I didn't do them cause I thought to make so make so many afd's would be abusive (I know how to use the afd template now :)). Having the name wrong bugged me.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:26, 31 May 2007 (EDT)

TDoHG, P2 pix

Hey, I saw your comment on Jason Badower's blog. The images from his June 4th entry aren't showing up for me either. If you want, you can see them here, here, and here. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:25, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

  • Thanks for the forwarded links. As I just noted on Jason's blog, the first of the blog pics work now but not the other two.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:05, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
    • Same for me, which is weird, because it obviously worked last week. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:34, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

Crew bios

Thanks for doing so many of those crew pages. I know you worked really hard on those, and they look really great! Looks like our next job is to put some connections on day. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:59, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

  • Kudos on the thanks. The connections will come when Season 2 starts, but working the stubs now and it's a bit more difficult.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:20, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

What's the point of putting nbsps? Not that it matters one way or another, but it seems like extra work to put unnecessary code. Is there a reason? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:10, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

  • It's all about the wrapping. When I want all of a set of words to be on the same line, like for a link, I use the non-breaking space.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:23, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

Thru..... actually spelled "Through". ;) --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 14:26, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

  • Either works for me, but the grammar expert says that thru is an informal use of "through" and not to use it. Good catches.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:32, 10 July 2007 (EDT)

Heh. I just checked your contributions. It appears that you have 1,500 edits. --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 00:52, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

  • Cool. Do I get a free Heroes Wiki t-shirt for that milestone? Otherwise, doesn't matter too much to me. ;)--MiamiVolts (talk) 08:52, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
    • Would you like one? I'm going to be mailing a couple out soon. (Admin 09:03, 12 July 2007 (EDT))
      • Yeah, just let me know when and where to e-mail you my address.--MiamiVolts (talk) 09:21, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
        • Email your name and shipping address to (Admin 11:36, 12 July 2007 (EDT))
          • Ok, sent the information. Thanks in advance!--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:04, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
  • Actually you have about 1450. You have 50 more to go. -Lөvөl 11:03, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
    • True. Looks like Heroe was a little early on the congrats. Oh well, that will be fixed shortly. LOL. ;)--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:04, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
      • Yeah, I realized in the middle of the night my number was off. :/ --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 12:54, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

Image:Gn betty p4.jpg

I don't see the difference between the old version and the new version you uploaded. It's also a duplicate of Image:Pep rally horror.jpg--is there something I'm missing? Never mind -- I needed to clear my cache. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:40, 17 July 2007 (EDT)

GN Release

  • Really, we're saying the novels are being released Monday when they're actually being released on Tuesday? That wouldn't make much sense. Do you remember any discussions why? (Admin 12:25, 7 August 2007 (EDT))
    • Most of the graphic novels have come out in that weird nighttime hour, where it's considered Tuesday in some areas, and Monday in others. There was a comment by Tim Kring early on in the run of the show when he said something about checking for the graphic novels on Monday night after the aired episode. That would be the reason we've put Monday in the past (especially when the GN is released around 2 or 3 in the morning). However, this latest one (and last week's, too) was definitely not released on Monday. I'd say the date should be Tuesday (well, let's hope it's released soon). -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:29, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
      • Bah, most people wouldn't consider 5 am eastern to be Monday night. We should either change 'em all or leave it Monday, imho.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:51, 7 August 2007 (EDT)

blurb or box?

you mention that I should blurb or box the help on my userpage so that it fits nicer. Sounds good :) if I knew how :(. Might you help me, please? SacValleyDweller 01:34, 28 August 2007 (EDT)

  • Sure thing... I'll add it in a bit. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:00, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
    • I thanked you on my talk page, I'll thank you here to: thanks for the improvement to my user page.--SacValleyDweller 02:21, 31 August 2007 (EDT)
      • You're welcome. Happy to oblige you.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:59, 31 August 2007 (EDT)

I read your coment about portuguese Heroes Wiki, I would love to help, but alone I won't do anything. It's in the beggining, and I'll need to have 3 or 4 guys helping me to transform that wiki. And about the recent changes, I saw that the last contribution was in march. =/ --Caio wgm 20:49, 3 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Sorry, but I don't speak/read/write portuguese, so that's why I suggested that Admin e-mail some of the pther people he has already made admin at the portuguese wiki. I realize it's hard to do things yourself (Admin basically did the first few episodes on his own, so I think he must know how that is). On another note, after you finish getting the wiki updated, you might want to do some advertising for the wiki on Brazilian websites or suggest to Admin where to advertise to gain more users. I do not know if he'd be up for investing into that, but it does not hurt to ask.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:00, 3 September 2007 (EDT)
    • Yeah, I know. Well, I think he's gonna to talk to that guy and then he'll advise me what I can do. --Caio wgm 12:04, 4 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Nice job on the translations of the recent articles Hana's posted. I know in at least one instance another site has linked to the article so people could read the english translation of the article. It's also nice to know that I remember enough from my 3 years of spanish in high school to understand most of the article despite having not really used spanish in years. (Admin 02:36, 6 September 2007 (EDT))
    • Thanks, though I can't take all the credit. Ryan did a great job on the second article (I've done the first and third). It's great that you were able to understand. It's hard to keep up a language if you don't practice it much.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:46, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
      • Now, if only they had an article in Albanian, then it'd be my time to shine! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:14, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
        • Indeed, the show is rumored to go to Russia and Ukraine later this year. Is the language in Ukraine similar to that in Albania? Like Portuguese is to Spanish or closer?--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:45, 6 September 2007 (EDT)
          • Nope, not at all. Russian and Albanian are both Indo-European languages. However, Russian is part of the East Slavic branch, whereas Albanian is really its own branch with no ties to other currently-existing languages. Albanian's exact origin is unknown, though I think it has ties to Illyrian and Dacian branches. I can give you a whole history lesson, but I don't want to bore you. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:08, 6 September 2007 (EDT)

Theories redirects

  • Let's make sure we keep those redirects from the "Theories" psuedonamespace around even after the move over to the real Theory namespace is complete. I'm pretty sure some people link to some of those Theories pages externally and we don't want to break those links for them. Then down the road if we want to consider getting rid of them I can check the logs and see if people are still hitting those redirects anymore. (Admin 20:20, 21 September 2007 (EDT))
    • Right, that's why I'm changing the old pages to redirects as I go. The only afd's I'm setting are the ones for my user subspace. I figure in a year or so we can re-evaluate if we still want to keep the redirects, that's why my comments say "for now" when I'm making them. BTW: I think we'll probably still decide to keep them, but it never hurts to encourage people to keep things updated. ;)--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:27, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
      • Cool, ok. I just wanted to make sure they weren't going to just be temporary redirects that would only last until the move was complete. Thanks! (Admin 20:43, 21 September 2007 (EDT))

Re: Google Translations

We're talking here about the Google translations. Have you used google at all to do translating to/from French and do you know if anyone else is? We're curious as to your opinion.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:37, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

  • Well, I won't answer in the main topic since I don't have much to say.. Pretty agree with both you and admin.. But I never user Google Translations and I nevel will.. I hate the word-by-word translation of a sentence.. It just doesn't make sense.. When I need one word translation, I use wordreference which is really great ! Something funny to do with google-like translators is to write a short text in english for exemple (Y), translate it into a language (X), then translate back the result from X to Y and you will see that it's full of misstakes and probably doesn't mean anything. As you can see, I'm not a big fan of sentence/text translators.. -- Frenchflo.gif (talk)

  • Did you see my email from yesterday? I sent you info on the test site. (Admin 14:20, 1 October 2007 (EDT))
    • Just checked my e-mail and got it. Sent you a reply.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:41, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
      • Ah, excellent. I didn't know if you had access to the test site, and it's very hard to explain the problems I was having (since I don't really know what I'm doing) without showing you examples.--Hardvice (talk) 15:08, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
