Kyoto, Japan was the capital of Japan for over a thousand years (except for six months in 1180), and was also known as Heian-kyō, until the Meiji restoration in 1868 when the capital was moved to Edo (now known as Tokyo). Kyoto is located near Osaka, birthplace of Hiro Nakamura, and both are in the Kansai or Kinki region of Japan.
