Washington, DC is the capital of the United States of America. It has a total district area of 68.3 square miles. Founded on July 16, 1790, the city is located on the north bank of the Potomac River and has a resident population of 599,657, which often rises into seven digits because of commuters during the workweek. Aside from being the capital of the USA, it houses over a hundred foreign embassies and is headquarters to several non-governmental organizations.

- Georgetown is a relatively affluent neighborhood located within DC, along the Potomac River.
- Arlington, VA is about a 10-minute drive from the heart of DC. It was once part of DC, but was retroceded to Virginia in 1847.

- Washington, DC is the only city in the United States that is not part of a state.
- The origins of Georgetown's name are unclear: George Beall and George Gordon founded the area as the "Town of George", and King George II was the king of England at the time.
