Excess Revenue Suggestions

Feel free to add items to this list

Future hardware upgrades

  • My opinion is that a good portion of the money should be kept in an interest bearing account for investment into the hardware that runs the site. I don't know how much it's costing you, but your stat said 2GB of data in a single day... Also keep in mind that there are tax implications if the income grows to a significant level, you may want to LLC and run the site as a business, so hardware becomes a business expense and portions can be written off on your taxes. --Orne 12:07, 6 December 2006 (EST)
    • The site is technically being run by the web hosting company I own which is an LLC already, so we're ok here. If we continue to grow beyond the free capacity we currently have then I'd have to dedicate some of the money (once again, assuming net profit) towards expansion... but we're ok for now.

Donation to a Charity

  • I believe that Greg Grunberg of Heroes has some affiliations to a charity due to his daughter's illness, perhaps that would be a good source of excess collections? --Orne 12:07, 6 December 2006 (EST)
    • I think that's a great idea. It would be great if ad revenue would give us enough to handle growth expenses as well as be able to donate some money to the cause! (Admin 12:15, 6 December 2006 (EST))
    • I like this idea, too.--Hardvice (talk) 12:44, 6 December 2006 (EST)
    • Agreed. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:49, 6 December 2006 (EST)
    • I, too, am seeing this as the best option so far. Perhaps there's a charity devoted to inheritable ilnesses? Might as well be a little thematic. --Ted C 12:51, 6 December 2006 (EST)

Prizes

  • Maybe a random drawing to draw in viewship at some point? --Orne 12:07, 6 December 2006 (EST)

Participant Kickbacks

  • Personally, I'm not too keen on this. My financial situation is ok, but I have no problem if some of the other folks would want this. --Orne 12:07, 6 December 2006 (EST)
    • I agree. Plus, more contributions does not necessarily mean better contributions. I'd much rather see the excess donated to a Heroes-related charity—which also might help our reputation, if any, with the creators and NBC when we make it on to their radar.--Hardvice (talk) 12:46, 6 December 2006 (EST)
      • Ok, cool. Yeah, my original idea wasn't to base it on quantity but on more subjective criteria to determine who had made the most useful contributions. The more I thought about it the less of a good idea it sounded, though. I still wanted to toss it out there plus I wanted to emphasize that I don't want to keep any proceeds myself. I really like the charity idea. (Admin 12:50, 6 December 2006 (EST))
    • I'm a big believer that this needs to be primarily volunteer, for a number of reasons I won't go into. I just think contributions can be spent better. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:51, 6 December 2006 (EST)

The advertising itself

  • So based on the conversation so far I get the impression that people don't have a problem with the idea of adding advertising to the site in of itself. Is this correct? (Admin 12:54, 6 December 2006 (EST))
