The Naming Debate
I'm liking Metal Mimicry or Metal Emulation. Any thoughts? Seb.gwirionyn 22:57, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- Metallic skin? Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 22:58, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- That implies his skin is permanently metallic though... He obviously triggered it somehow. Seb.gwirionyn 23:01, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- Metal mimicry, to match Water mimicry, since they're essentially the same ability.--Riddler 23:02, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- By the way, the man in question isn't homeless, and his name is Danny Pine. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:03, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- I didn't hear the name clearly when I watched, so I didn't question it, but if we use a name, that doesn't matter except for where it needs to be filled in. =P--Riddler 23:04, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- Thanks for the name. Thompson mutters too bloody much. Still, is everyone cool with Metal Mimicry? I don't want to move the page without a consensus or some Admin may slaughter me in my sleep.Seb.gwirionyn 23:15, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- I don't have any objections to "metal mimicry" (though it should be lowercase, not uppercase). And I only slaughter when people are awake. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:30, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- Well, if this helps, I was trying to find this ability because it isnt linked to any pages I know of yet, and I instinctivly typed METAL MIMICRY. :) --Action Figure 23:37, 10 November 2008 (EST)
- Brilliant. Well, I've typed up the page... but if someone slightly more knowledgeable at editing could add the contents table thingy (or show me how to do it), I'd appreciate it. Also, and quite obviously, we need an image! Seb.gwirionyn 23:52, 10 November 2008 (EST)

- It's also not known if he can only turn into metal --Omni314 08:33, 13 November 2008 (EST)
- That's true... but also incredibly speculative. That would be like suggesting Nathan can shoot air bullets because his flight comes from air manipulation. It's possible. And we have little evidence to suggest against it... It's just very unlikely due to the simplistic nature on the Heroes' abilties. Seb.gwirionyn 11:12, 13 November 2008 (EST)
Why isn't this another example of Alchemy?
And we generalize down alchemy from not solely gold but the transmutation of metals.
Bob and Danny just do different ones. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 11/11/2008 00:54 (EST)
- Because it's different, I don't know if they're going the X-men route in this case (Ice Man), but there is a difference between turning things metal and turning yourself into metal. --Dman dustin 00:56, 11 November 2008 (EST)
- I don't think we've ever seen Bob do it to himself, unless I'm mistaken. Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 00:57, 11 November 2008 (EST)
Vulnerability
Something that I think wasn't made very clear: when Meredith used her power on the metallic hand, did he retreat cause he could feel it on his hand or because the metal conducted the heat to the non metallic parts of his body? Intuitive Empath 08:46, 11 November 2008 (EST)
- I'm guessing he felt it through his arm. In the Partners graphic novel, Danny falls over backwards and reverts his ability after Noah shoots a few rounds at his transformed arm. Revengeance 14:32, 20 November 2008 (EST)
- In Partners, it seemed to me that fell backwards cause the metal arm threw his balance off. Intuitive Empath 17:01, 20 November 2008 (EST)
- Why would he withdraw his ability? Why didn't he get back up and start swinging at Noah? But I think you're right about the balance issue... his swing at Meredith in Villains looked like it required a lot of effort, as if he isn't immune to the additional weight of becoming metal. Revengeance 02:59, 23 November 2008 (EST)
- Going into the speculation woods, I think that he lost his balance because he wasn't fully transformed (assuming he can), if he changed completely, his metallic body would balance out the metallic arm, so balance would've been kept. Intuitive Empath 08:54, 24 November 2008 (EST)

Arm
Something that only sank to me now: how can his arm remain metallic after it has been severed from his body? It no longer has a connection with the brain or with his circulatory system, meaning no connection to adrenal glands. Since there's no more cognitive control from the brain and no chemical reaction due to enzymes, how could his arm possibly stay transformed??? Maybe it's because since it was "freshly" cut, it still had traces of his enzymes? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:09, 22 December 2008 (EST)
- Or maybe it has a lightswitch effect; he has to conciously turn it off with a different adrenaline set. --Max 16:24, 25 December 2008 (EST)
