Donna Dorn documents Japan's Edo period, proclaiming White Beard had turned it from its most prosperous time to its bloodiest. Expecting an easy victory, she says, he marched to Otsu with only a small company of men. She also documents the Fire Scroll, the Ninety ronin, White Beard's snake women, Yaeko, and the Kensei sword.
