Image rendering problem
- Hey, when you have a moment, can you take a look at Paradox and Talk:Paradox? We've been having problems with some images showing up blank even when properly linked. So far, it's been reported on FF, IE6, and IE7, and clearing the browser cache doesn't help. If you follow the links, it's adding extra escape characters after the file extension. Any ideas what's going on?--Hardvice (talk) 16:20, 3 January 2007 (EST)
- How about now? I just basically deleted and retyped the Image links in the gallery. When you clicked on the image it was going to Charlie_birthday_1.jpg but then it had some ASCII hex after it for some reason so it didnt find the filename, but it didn't show up when editing the page. Not sure what the deal was, but it seems to work now. (Admin 16:28, 3 January 2007 (EST))
Meta: StringFunctions
- Admin, I noticed that there are a number of string functions that are available for parsing. They are not installed by default, but they would allow substring manipulations. Do you think the community would be interested in these? I can think of a few parser tricks to check if a template variable is a Ref or not by checking if the string begins with [[ ... but I don't know what kind of risks adding string parsing would add to your server. --Orne 17:11, 4 January 2007 (EST)
- I'll take a look at the extension and test it out. If it looks good, I can add it. (Admin 17:38, 4 January 2007 (EST))
Episodes to Chapters
- Shouldn't we Rename All the Episodes to Chapters cause that is the Term that the Show uses. ~ ~ ~ ~ Red = 22:34, 4 January 2007 (EST)
- It's an interesting idea. Personally I prefer the episode approach (in terms of the namespace name) since it's more general and I'd be afraid of them doing something along the lines of splitting the series into different "books" and then they'd start reusing chapter numbers. Maybe it could be added to the title field of the episode sidebar? Would be good to get some more feedback on this from others here before adding it. (Admin 22:43, 4 January 2007 (EST))
- I like the idea, but I agree with your concern, Admin, that things might change along the way. I don't think it's necessary to add the title field, since the chapter number is already on the page (in the form of the episode title screencaps). But I'm not opposed. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:21, 4 January 2007 (EST)
- Yeah, I'm on the fence as to the value. I think we include an image of the chapter and episode name in every episode already anyway, right? So it might be superfluous. (Admin 23:22, 4 January 2007 (EST))
- Easy! this is to be Volume one for the 1st Season. And it is a Canon ~ ~ ~ ~ Red = 23:38, 4 January 2007 (EST)

- Seems like more trouble than it's worth. We have about nine billion links to articles in the Episode: namespace. Considering a lot of them are to redirects, we'd have a ton of broken redirects and not much to show for it.--Hardvice (talk) 23:56, 4 January 2007 (EST)
- Also, all of the links are set to exclude the namespace anyway, either by piping or by redirect. So even if we went to all the trouble of changing every link to "Episode:Genesis" to "Chapter:Genesis", it'd still display as Genesis. Lots of work, no gain.--Hardvice (talk) 02:09, 5 January 2007 (EST)

IMDb Images
Ok, my brain isn't working properly. Is there a way to get a list of images in Category:Cast and Crew Portraits that don't have {{image-imdb}} on them? I've already searched for variations of "IMDB" and tagged 'em, and cleaned out Category:Uncredited Images, but it seems like there are probably more. I'll have to go through all the images manually now, right, or am I forgetting something?--Hardvice (talk) 01:42, 7 January 2007 (EST)
- Short of writing a bot, I'm not sure of a good way of doing it automatically. I should just take the time and get up to speed on writing bots so I can just automate things like this. (Admin 01:47, 7 January 2007 (EST))
Edits not registering on "Recent changes"
Hey, Admin. I noticed on the History page of Mohinder's taxi license that the page was created at 16:46, 10 January 2007 by Cuardin. For some reason, this is not showing up anywhere on my "Recent changes" page. I've tried fiddling with the show/hide options, and doing everything I know. I'm afraid I might be missing other edits as well. Any thoughts, or is this just a freak thing? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:40, 10 January 2007 (EST)
- It's because I moved it ... it was "Mohinders Taxi License". Since it was misspelled, I deleted the resulting redirect. Since I deleted it, the creation doesn't show up in RC. Totally normal.--Hardvice (talk) 23:55, 10 January 2007 (EST)
- But every other time something has been deleted, the original creation still showed up as a red link, and then the deletion appears later on. Weird. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:24, 11 January 2007 (EST)
Re: Affectations on HRG's Glasses
- thank you Admin, for removing my post on The Symbol page. I just got a look at a recording from an HD source on a subsequent episode (10) and found that the details on the accents I noted were probably just lighting effects crossed with a VHS recording. You saved me the trouble of removing them. Besides It was pointed out to me that if Doctor Chandra Sharesh saw the symbol of his discovery and the cover of Accelerating Evolution on the glasses of HRG/Mr. Bennet, he would have probably pointied it out (Episode 10, Six Months Back).
StringFunctions
Hey there! Didn't realise you were online or I'd have asked you directly about the MW upgrade. Thanks for the info ... that net change counter is a neat trick. Also, when you get a chance, can you take a look at Template talk:Character box? Orne seems to have come up with a really clever use for the StringFunctions extension. I don't know much about the MediaWiki backend, so I'm really not sure how well it will work, but it's worth a thought.--Hardvice (talk) 00:27, 17 January 2007 (EST)
