Logo Contest

  • If there are any more suggestions for guidelines, etc. to add to this page before we add a link to the main page for the contest, let's discuss them. (Admin 15:24, 1 June 2007 (EDT))
    • Do the logos need to include the Symbol and the eclipse? I think it's a good idea, but I don't know if it needs to be a requirement. RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:04, 1 June 2007 (EDT)
      • I suppose not. I changed them to suggestions. (Admin 22:01, 1 June 2007 (EDT))
        • Good suggestions, for sure. I'm glad we're doing another logo contest, by the way. I think we have a very handsome logo, but I'd like to get away from the Lostpedia copycat a bit. Plus, I don't think of us as an encyclopedia, so a new logo would be very nice. RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:41, 1 June 2007 (EDT)
          • Yeah, the encyclopedia look bothered me a little bit since it doesn't really accurately convey what the site is about. I also didnt realize until I took a good look at Lostpedia's logo that it actually does look pretty similar in many ways. I've heard people mention that the logo confused them and they actually thought Heroes Wiki was run by the same people. It's served us well and is better looking than the logo we had before, but it's time for a change! :) (Admin 22:44, 1 June 2007 (EDT))
            • You could add "The Mark" to the list of suggestions, plus list the prizes ahead of time if you're offering them. Also, I recommend limiting the number of submissions per user so the wiki is not swamped.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:42, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
              • It looks like The Mark is becoming less relevent, while the eclipse and the symbol keep popping up. Not offering any prizes at the moment, but the creator of the winning logo will be credited at the bottom of the site and gets to see their logo on every page here. :) Plus if there are any types of prizes in the future they'd definitely be on the list. I'm not worried about the number of submissions per user. If anything I'm worried about a lack of submissions. :) (Admin 13:15, 2 June 2007 (EDT))
                • What about a cockroach, for me, with the eclipse, it is what best summarize the show in one picture! (not sure if what I said means something) -- FrenchFlo (talk)        17:41, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
                  • Okay, I tried one with a cockroach. It's not the greatest, but maybe it'll inspire a real artist. Plus, I'm just trying to get the contest rolling. :) RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:44, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
                    • It's an interesting idea, but I think having a cockroach in the logo would turn people off of the site. (Admin 18:45, 2 June 2007 (EDT))
                      • Or attract an entirely different crowd. :) RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:50, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
                        • I think the cockroach is cool, but that's just me...--Ice Vision 21:50, 2 June 2007 (EDT)
                          • It does look cool, but I agree with Admin that we shouldn't use it. Gotta try not to scare off the women folk. We could use more of those around here, imho, and I've found that the stereotype that they don't like roaches rings true more times than not.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:06, 3 June 2007 (EDT)
  • I was thinking about the banner 728x90, I think the banner should display the Takezo Kensai pannel extracted from the Museun. It fit perfectly into the banner and reflect both the spirit of the show and the mysteries that are around! (you can also include the dragon etc...) --  (talk) 08:53, 3 June 2007 (EDT)
    • There can be multiple banner images, so feel free to explore all different options. The banner images will be used when I run ad campaigns and I can set it to rotate between several different images. (Admin 11:34, 3 June 2007 (EDT))

Photo help?

  • Could someone make mine for me? I have an idea, but I suck at computer stuff like that. :P --Heroe!(talk) (contribs) 13:18, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

Favicons

Favicons should be 16x16, I assume. I'm just basing that off the size of the other favicons. The size should probably be included in the guidelines. RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:47, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

  • I wasn't planning to replace the favicon, but if you want to add it to the page go ahead. I think the one we have now is good, but it doesn't hurt to see some new ideas. (Admin 18:48, 2 June 2007 (EDT))
    • I like the idea of using the symbol, I just don't like the current design very much. It's too straight in the middle. I uploaded an idea for a design, we'll see where it goes. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:54, 3 June 2007 (EDT)
      • Where is the current favicon? Not sure if I've seen it...--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:24, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
        • If first was this one but it has been (sadly) replaced with a more... colorless version... --  (talk) 16:58, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
          • Ok, that's what it looks like, but where is it used?--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:06, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
            • I'm not sure to understand your question, a favicon is used... as a favicon.. check out here if it is was you want to know... --  (talk) 17:14, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
              • Thanks, now I understand what a favicon is. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:20, 4 June 2007 (EDT)

Button Logos

Can you tell me where it is they are used?--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:38, 3 June 2007 (EDT)

  • In their links to other sites, some sites use little button images for each site. Here is one example out of many sites using them. (Admin 19:16, 3 June 2007 (EDT))

Closing date?

I'm working on an animated banner, but I don't want to finish it only to find out the contest is closed. Is there any closing date in mind? --Pearse 13:02, 4 June 2007 (EDT)

  • I don't know if Admin has any closing date in mind, but the last logo contest lasted for about 5 or 6 weeks. This one was only announced last week. I think you've got some time. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:30, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
    • Cool. I visit everyday so I'd probably notice if the contest was about to close anyway, but I just wanted to check. --Pearse 13:38, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
      • Yeah, I'm thinking about a month or so for the main site logo ought to do it. Plus banner submissions are always welcome since I can always add good new ones to any advertising campaign. (Admin 21:44, 4 June 2007 (EDT))
        • I've tried uploading my banner and button which are both gif files, but when I do it I get this message "The file has no extension (like ".jpg")." It's odd because I know other .gif files have been uploaded on here. --Pearse 12:28, 5 June 2007 (EDT)
          • Yeah, I've seen gif's too but I haven't uploaded any myself. The upload log shows no files from you so I concur that the upload failed or crashed before it began. I recommend using the browse button to select the file. Also, you need to ensure that there's a filename with extension in the destination textbox.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:46, 5 June 2007 (EDT)
            • Ah, that was my mistake. I didn't add a file type to the destination file name, I just put a title for the pic. Thanks very much!--Pearse 14:04, 5 June 2007 (EDT)

Copyright

  • When it comes time to begin discussing which logo(s) are people's favorites (in a few weeks) keep in mind that we'll need to obtain permission from the copyright holders for any logos containing elements of copyrighted works. I think we can hold off worrying about it until we find out which few logos are most popular and then just seek permission for those few logos that are the final candidates. Just keep in mind as you're creating the logos that they could be shot down if they contain copyrighted elements and the holder doesn't want us using them. (Admin 21:48, 4 June 2007 (EDT))

Voting?

How many more do you think we should get before we vote on the submissions? --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 18:35, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

  • Who says we can't vote right now? Just talk about the ones you like. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:13, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

Site logo vote

Vote for your choice for the new Heroes Wiki logo. You may vote for multiple logos if you like more than one. Voting will conclude on July 6 2007 and the new logo will be chosen.

  • Ryan's logo has been made the new Heroes Wiki site logo. Congratulations, Ryan and thank you so much for everyone who submitted a design. I also think the second place logo is very neat looking so I'll definitely be using it in the future for something. Perhaps a design on a t-shirt or something. Not sure yet. (Admin 13:04, 6 July 2007 (EDT))
  • Thanks everybody! I agree, I think the other logo looks really cool and I'd like to see it connected to the site somehow.... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:27, 6 July 2007 (EDT)

Button

Did we ever come up with a button to represent the site? Somebody at another site asked me if we had one. I told them to use this one by MiamiVolts because it has the Tim Sale font, the same color as the main logo, and looks the cleanest. I'm not a big fan of the flying Petrelli, but that's just me. (It'd be cool if you wanted to update it before it gets swiped for use on another site, Miami.) Anyway, I hope nobody has a problem with me pimping out a button that hasn't been voted on, but I needed something in a pinch, and I think we'd all agree Miami's button is pretty nice. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:04, 8 August 2007 (EDT)

  • Thanks for the recommendation, Ryan! I think the flying Petrelli is cool, but if you have a better idea, I'm open to changing it. Also, if I had to choose, I'd have picked my Kyoto button instead. Doesn't really matter, though. I'll be happy either way.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:55, 8 August 2007 (EDT)
  • There's not just one single or official button for the site; I'd say if someone wants to use one to link to us just pick the one you like the best or let the person linking to us pick the one they like the best. And new button images are welcome at any time. (Admin 23:48, 8 August 2007 (EDT))
