Talk:Ability negation pills

We sure the ones Peter took are the same ones Niki took? Peter had other pills in there, Niki had specific Red and White ones... hers could just be for the MPD.--Riddler 00:04, 13 November 2007 (EST)

  • Yeah, I don't think they're the same pills. I'll try to get screenshots of both.--Hardvice (talk) 00:23, 13 November 2007 (EST)
    • Peter has what appears to be one of the red pills like Niki's, but he also has several others. I don't think we can confirm that Niki's pills are intended to negate her powers.--Hardvice (talk)

  • Maybe the Red/white pills only negate enhanced strength...(that's all Niki has), then Peter has the other pills to negate the other powers he has (or that they know of). --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 11/13/2007 12:06 (EST)
  • Peter only has one ability that needs suppression: empathic mimicry. If they were giving him different pills for each of his mimicked powers, he'd be eating pills as a meal. I just don' think it's safe to say that Niki's pills are intended to suppress her power, and not merely the side effect of her power. Bob says nothing to that effect. nobody ever mentions anything about ability suppression in Niki's case. She experiences side effects which Peter does not. Presumably, Niki rersumed treatment for her split personality at the Company's hospital after dropping Micah off in New Orleans, and they didn't bother to suppress her power then, as witnessed by her rampage in Fight or Flight. It just seems like conjecture based on the similar appearance of the pills, which may or may not even be the pills in the mix Peter is taking which are responsible for suppressing Peter's powers.--Hardvice (talk) 14:43, 13 November 2007 (EST)
  • Pretty obviously not the same pills. Niki's pills don't have hair on them. - Hive 19:33, 13 November 2007 (EST)
  • Does anyone think that Peter's pills are the power negation pills or Haitian pills whichever you prefer and that Niki's were just for her multiple personality disorder? Yes granted they both have a red and white one but alot of pills are similar on televison.--Iceman 12:49, 14 November 2007 (EST)
    • I think it's likely that at least some of them are the same pills, but I think it's highly speculative to say that Niki was given power negation pills. Other than the fact that both characters are given pills of some type by the Company in the same episode, there is zero evidence to support that. They're very forthright with the fact that they're giving Peter pills to suppress his powers. They never once mention anything to Niki about suppressing her powers, just about treating her MPD.--Hardvice (talk) 15:13, 14 November 2007 (EST)
      • Watching the episode I notice the scenes where Bob is pimping his pharmaceuticals are back to back. Preventing too much redundancy in information for the shows makers. Granted they never show us the same exact combination of meds for Niki and Peter but we do see her bottle of red/white gel caps that match one of the pills in Peters cup. Who's to say her medicine cabinet doesn't have bottles with the other pills in it? I wouldn't think there is a need to show her dumping out every one of the types of pills in Peters cup before I yield. Also, Bob isn't out trying to cure Peter and Niki's psychological issues (though he may say otherwise), just suppress their powers. Also, there is no magic pill for MPD. It requires years of therapy, hypnosis, and relaxation techniques along with medications when unavoidable. I think all this makes the probability of them both taking the power negation pills "highly probable", rather than "highly speculative". --Mish(Talk), 24 September 2021 -07:37 EDT
        • Sure. But "probable" is still "speculative" in that it isn't confirmed. Good speculation is still speculation, and it has no place in the main portion of an article. See Help:Sources and Help:Theories.--Hardvice (talk) 16:45, 14 November 2007 (EST)

Haitian Pills

Elle said "let's call them Haitian pills". Should this be considered their name because it would be redundant if she said that and then we never hear them referenced again. --SomeoneImportant 11:20, 13 November 2007 (EST)

  • I think that this was just supposed to be a joke to make the concept easier to understand. -- HamsterClo 11:36, 13 November 2007 (EST)
  • I would much rather see the page called "Haitian pills". Not only is it a (nick)name given pretty directly in a canon source, but it also removes any speculation about what the pills do (do they negate the powers, or just dampen them? Do they affect the powers themselves, the brain, the blood, or something else altogether?) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:11, 13 November 2007 (EST)
    • Im struggling with this one now. On one hand they were called Haitian pills by the show, on the other hand, as far as we know, they have nothing to do with the Haitian except mimicking the effects of his power. Also I can't imaginge they would be used again. I think HamsterClo was right the name was just used as a conceptual aid. I still opt for Haitian pills though, just sounds better. --SomeoneImportant 20:26, 13 November 2007 (EST)
      • I disagree with Haitian pills, because the Haitian can also erase memories. And the pills cannot erase memories. Power negation does what it says on the tin - it negates powers. --DocM 13:15, 14 November 2007 (EST)

Rename to Ability

Just added rename template to keep it standard with the naming convention of "ability" versus "power".--Bob (talk) 20:20, 26 November 2007 (EST)

  • I don't mind a change, but I don't see any need for it. Power and ability can be used interchangeably here. But I'm very "whatever" about this issue. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:24, 26 November 2007 (EST)
