Theory talk:Red

From Heroes Wiki

  • Personally, I have not seen anything abnormal about the color red in the show. In the interest of cleanup, I've categorized it to get it out of the Special Pages. --Orne 16:11, 10 November 2006 (EST)
    • I haven't noticed anything in particular about red, either. Anyone else? Any interviews or fan discussions about it already? (Admin 16:15, 10 November 2006 (EST))
      • I spent a good hour or so trying to think of any examples of this. There are red things, like Claire's cheerleading outfit, but there are lots of scenes with supernatural stuff going on with no red stuff. The only thing red that stands out for sure is this article ... it's a red herring.--Hardvice (talk) 01:40, 11 November 2006 (EST)
        • Should it be deleted then? I have not seen a mention of this theory on 9thwonders.com, and that's saying something, given what normally passes for theories over there  :) --Orne 01:44, 11 November 2006 (EST)
          • I'd vote to kill it. Even now that the list is filled out, I can't help but think we could do the same thing with an article called "Blue" or "Yellow" or "Chartreuse". This is up there with the OMG THE 11YO INDIAN BOY IS REALLY MOHINDER'S DEAD SISTER threads in plausibility.--Hardvice (talk) 17:52, 14 November 2006 (EST)
          • Seconded (thirded?). --Fcphantom 17:55, 14 November 2006 (EST)
            • I vote for deletion as well. (Admin 18:12, 14 November 2006 (EST))
              • I'd vote for deletion too! Why is this even here? I'm sure if you pointed out everythign blue in the show, you'd get a lot, it doesn't mean it is signifigant! User:Isaac Mendez
                • *sniff* This is the article that got me hooked on Heroes Wiki, believe it or not...But yes, the time has come for this article to go. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:55, 23 October 2008 (EDT)

There are lots of examples of red in the show, just as many comic books, movies, and other media will use a particular color to evoke a feeling, emotion, or as a sign (or, yes, red herring) to the audience. Red is especially evident in Isaac's paintings.

  • It just doesn't strike me as any more prevalent than any other color ... say, blue. The scenes between Peter and Isaac are filmed with a heavy blue filter, as was the scene between Peter and Future Hiro. In those cases, it's definitely a design choice, but that alone doesn't mean it Means Something. The instances of red seem to mostly be instances where one would expect to see red, unlike, say, the red doorknob in The Sixth Sense. They also seem far too random to be trying to establish a point. It seems a lot more like they're filming a world that happens to include red things than it seems OMG THIS STOPSIGN IS RED IT MEANS THERE ARE SUPERHEROES PRESENT.--Hardvice (talk) 13:53, 16 November 2006 (EST)
    • With all due respect, just because one fan doesn't see it, doesn't mean another doesn't. In the end, we are cataloguing the world of Heroes, including fan theories. No, this is certainly not a plot point. But it is part of the world, and it is a viable theory and observation about the world. Watching three episodes back-to-back for the first time, my wife and I both turned to each other and noted, "Man, they use a lot of red in this show, don't they." It's okay if not everybody sees it or agrees with it - but that's not a reason to delete a page.Ryangibsonstewart 16:01, 16 November 2006 (EST)
      • So given that there are differing opinions on whether it's a valid theory at this point, I suggest we default to leaving it. We can just make sure the article or references to it point out that it's a fan theory. (Admin 16:18, 16 November 2006 (EST))
      • I think the problem is, many people feel is not that evident that they are using Red any more than any other color in the palette. Yes, things like the "school color" can be picked to have significance to the show, but... It happens that my High School in PA also had the mascot of the Wildcat and school colors were Red and White. Coincidence, yes -- but does that mean that Red was picked in Heroes because it's "special", or was it picked because it is a common school color so that the viewers can feel that it's an 'anytown' high school.... likewise, things like "stop signs" are not unique, "blood" is used in every show as a suspense element... Feel free to keep populating the list, I'm gonna leave it alone. ~~----Orne 16:35, 16 November 2006 (EST)
        • You make a good point - of course there is going to be red in any show, and that doesn't mean that it's necessarily special. But I think it's the design choice in certain parts of the show where red is used to be striking (like the red dress in Schindler's List, or throughout The Sixth Sense), or at least to mimic the look of a comic book (much the way bright colors were used in Dick Tracy). True, a stop sign probably doesn't need to be included in the list, but many of the examples are signigicant. And even though blood is always going to be red, you have to admit that it looks pretty striking in the 9th Wonders comic book page Ryangibsonstewart 17:31, 16 November 2006 (EST)
          • Honestly I thought this page was bogus when I first found it, but ever since I’ve been seeing red everywhere on Heroes. It’s probably just me. I never looked for it before. I’m honestly not sure if the writers plan to put red in the series, and I’m not even sure if it is used more than any other color. My personal opinion is that they use red predominantly in some shots just because it looks cool. (Such as when they put red in the precognitive paintings, like the umbrella in the Peter and Simone picture, or the blood in the picture of Claire’s death in The Eclipse Part I.) However, I don’t think we should delete this article, because it is considered a theory article. It’s not bible, and I don’t think it would hurt to leave it alone. But then again, it looks like I’m out numbered. Mohinder613 (my talk page) 16:42, 8 January 2009 (EST)

Merge with Theories?

I know this is a "controversial" page (read: Y'all think it's bunk!)... And since it is technically just a fan theory, is there some way we can make it an extension of the Theories page? Should we leave it alone? - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:06, 30 November 2006 (EST)

Since it's a pretty large page, I'd say just link to it from Theories. (Admin 00:08, 30 November 2006 (EST))

Haemoglobin

"(Hemoglobin in human blood makes it turn red when exposed to oxygen)" I have no opinion whatsoever on the page as a whole, but the wquoted statement above is simply factual eror. Blood (in particular haemoglobin) is allways red. It just happens to change shade of red depending on its oxygen content, but it is never anything other than red. -- Cuardin 11:22, 20 January 2007 (EST)

Mostly in Isaacs Paintings

I have watched the series many times and never not once picked up on red except Isaacs paintings. OK maybe red could be a major colour in Heroes or maybe it's just that Isaac bought too much red paint.345tom 17:41, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Deletion Bump

Do we really need this page? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 22:31, 21 February 2009 (EST)

  • Is there any opposition to this page being deleted? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:40, 21 February 2009 (EST)
    • I'm not saying that I would vastly miss it, but as I said above, my opinion is that it is a theory page; therefore, we should leave it alone. I'm fine with anything you guys come up with, and if it is deleted I will not lose any sleep over it, but I'm asking out of curiosity if it would hurt anything just to leave it. I'm not sure how many people have the "red theory," but obviously, some do. Again, that's just my opinion, and I wouldn't say I'm necessarily "opposed" to the idea. I'm alright with whatever the final decision is. Anyone else? --Mohinder613 (my talk page) 17:24, 5 March 2009 (EST)
      • I think it's a good theory page, but it's not been maintained much. I don't think it needs deleting, but since we don't normally archive theories, I'm not opposed.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:25, 5 April 2009 (EDT)

Uhhhh, why do we have an article for red but not gray (or grey) btw why is it a theory page, don't see any theories at all.Just usage. It dosent make any sense....--ZeroTime 08:13, 8 June 2009 (EDT)
