Ducking down, they joined the group of Turners going the other way, slipped down a deserted corridor and hurried off towards the girls' toilets. They had just turned the corner when they heard quick footsteps behind them. 'Stacy!' Michael hissed, pulling James behined a tall statue. Peering around it, however, they saw not Stacy but miss Sky. She crossed the corridor disapearing from view. 'What's she doing?' whispared James. Quietly as possible, they crept along the next corridor after miss Sky's fading footsteps. 'She's heading for the third floor,' James said, but Michael held up his hand. It was a horrible sight. Twelve feet tall, its skin was a bright red, sunset orange, its great scaley body. It had stubby legs and drited through the air gracefully. 'The key's in the lock,' James mutted. 'We could lock it in.' 'Good idea,' said Michael quickly. They edged towards the open door, mouths dry, praying the dragon they just seen wasn't about to come out of it. With one great leap, James managed to grab the key, slam the door and lock it. 'Yes!' Filled with victory they started to run back up the stairs, but as they reached the corner they heared something that made their hearts stop - a high pitched scream - and it was coming from the door they just locked. 'Oh, no,' said Michael. 'It's the girls' toilets!' 'Jenny!' they said together. It was the last thing they wanted to do, but what choice did they have? - they ran inside. Jenny Scarlet was shrinking against the wall opposite, looking as if she was about to faint. The red dragon was advancing on her. 'Confuse it!' James said despreatly to Michael, and seizing a broken tap he trew it has hard as he could against the wall. The dragon stopped a few feet from Jenny. It lumbered around, blinking stupidly, to see what had made the noise. Its mean little eyes saw James. It made for him instead, smoke puffing from it's nostrolls as it went. 'Ay!' Michael yelled from the other side of the room. The dragon turned it's snout towards Michael, giving James time to run round it. 'Run!' James shouted at Jenny, trying to pull her towards the door. The shouting and the echoes seemed to be driving the dragon mad. It spat a ball of fire into the air and started towards Michael, who had no way to escape. James then did something very brave and yet very pointless: he took a great running jump and manage to land onto the dragons back, when suddently the dragon vanished and small amounts of dust fell from the spot. It was Michael who spoke first. 'Is it - gone?' 'I think so,' said Jenny. 'I think it may have been an illusion created by somebody.' 'But who would want to -,' A suddent slamming and loud footsteps made the three of them look up. They hadn't realised what a racket they had been making, but of course, someone downstairs must have heard shouting and screaming. A moment later, mr King had come bursting into the room, closely followed by miss Sky and miss Yaga. Miss Sky picked up a small bit of dust and snift it, 'Illusion,' she said. Mr King was looking at Michael and James. James had never seen him so angry. 'What on earth were you thinking of?' said mr King, with a dark tone in his voice. James looked at Michael. 'Why aren't you in your commonroom?' Miss Sky gave James a swift, piercing look. James looked at he floor. Then a small voice came from the shadows. 'Please, sir - they were looking for me.' 'Jenny!' Jenny had only just been noticed by mr King. 'I thought I - I would be safer here then in the commonroom.' Michael snigged. Jenny Scarlet, lying to a teacher? 'If they hadn't found me -.' James and Michael tryed to look like the story wasn't new to them. 'Jenny,' mr King said 'You are a foolish girl, how could you think a toilet would be safer then a commonroom?' Jenny hung her head. Michael was speechless. 'I'm very disapointed in all of you. If you are not hurt at all, you'd better get off to the commonroom. Students are finishing their feast in the commonrooms.' They hurried out of the toilets and didn't speak at all until they had climed two floors up. It was a relief to be away from that crime scene. But from that moment on Jenny Scarlet had become their friend.
