"It looks like the Doppler radar." Congrats man.--Bob (talk) 16:58, 22 December 2007 (EST)
- Our new first choice for a name? Doppler....if it's a boy. :) Thanks, Bob. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:08, 22 December 2007 (EST)
- He looks just like you ;) --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 01:31, 27 December 2007 (EST)
- ...or "she"... I'm trying to whether you're saying I look like a gummy bear or an alien. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:33, 27 December 2007 (EST)
Name suggestions/discussion
you open to name suggestions, ryan? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:58, 27 December 2007 (EST)
- Sure, if it's a boy. If it's a girl, she'll be named Hallie Pearl after two of my wife's great grandmothers. We've run out of boy names that we both agree on, so I'm always open to suggestions. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:15, 27 December 2007 (EST)
- Beautiful girl's name! Here's a list of boys names I like and where they're from:
- my family: Marion (it was a boys before our time, as he was a relative), Glenn.
- the Bible: Abraham
- history: Benjamin (as in Franklin).
- pop culture: Luke (as in Skywalker), Sherman (as in T. Potter), Walter (as in __ "Radar" O'Riley ).
- Others: Cody, Eric, Kurt, Sam/Samuel.
--SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:50, 27 December 2007 (EST)
- Nice names! My wife has been trying to get me to settle on "Luke" for awhile now...there's something about having both a first name and last name with an "ooh" sound that rubs me the wrong way. I'm a bit picky, I guess. I also won't pick anything that starts with an S. Go figure. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:29, 27 December 2007 (EST)
- Only weirdos are named Luke. ;) --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 20:07, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- Here I am trying to figure out what that pic was and then I enlarge and I'm like... "OoooooooOOOO" haha. Congrats Ryan. If it's a boy name him Hiro Nakamura!!!!! lol. Jason Garrick 21:37, 28 December 2007 (EST)
- My wife would kill me if I even suggested that! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:01, 28 December 2007 (EST)
- Ryan jr. :) --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 21:54, 28 December 2007 (EST)
- My first son's middle name is Ryan, which I already think is a bit megalomaniacal. If I named my next son Ryan, people would start calling me George Foreman! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:01, 28 December 2007 (EST)
- Ju' kiddin'. Seiously, though, how about Alex? I like that name. --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 22:16, 28 December 2007 (EST)

- I think you may be interested in patterns, and seeing how one existing son's name begins with an 'E' and the other with a 'G', the next name in progression would probably begin with an 'I' or a 'C'. And since both end with the letter 'n', I will suggest the names 'Ian' (Scottish for God is Gracious) and 'Conlan' (Irish for Hero). If you want to peruse a good list, I recommend babynames.com.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:28, 28 December 2007 (EST)
- Making full names out of a few of my suggestions plus add new suggestions for names as full names:
- Full from old: Marion Alan Stewart, Abraham Josef Stewart, Benjamin Alan Stewart,
- New: Andrew James Stewart, Andrew Michael Stewart(same cadence as your name), Michael Andrew Stewart,
- SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:44, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- Well, I feel it's time I unload my wife's constant headache (namely me) on everybody, and let y'all know every one of my idiosyncrasies. These are the unexplainable pet peeves I use to shoot down almost every one of my wife's suggestions, much to her chagrin. Okay, full disclosure:
- Names cannot have the same primary vowel sound as the last name. So "Drew Stewart" and "Luke Stewart" are out.
- Names cannot end in the same sound as the beginning sound of the last name. That excludes "Reese Stewart" and "Ace Stewart". This goes for similar sounds, like "Lex Stewart", "Baz Stewart", and "Welsh Stewart".
- Peter Petrelli and Laura Lancaster are wonderful for comics and juvenile poetry, but not for my childrens' names. Nothing alliterative like "Samuel Stewart" or "Sassafras Stewart".
- I have a hard time with names which will automatically be shortened to nicknames. I love the name Gabriel, but not the name Gabe. Michael is nice, but he'll be called Mike.
- Initials cannot spell anything or even look like it begins to spell anything. So that rules out "Paul Ivan Stewart" and of course "Aaron Stephen Stewart". "Benjamin Alan Stewart" would be nice, but I can't help but think that his initials sound like they're trying to send a message that the kid was born out of wedlock. :)
- Anyway, just wanted to let y'all have a little peek at the mess of issues which is my mind. Thanks for all the suggestions! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:53, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- "Child 3" seems to be the only thing I can think of that fits your requirements. :] -- Lulu (talk) 03:57, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- Now you see why it's a miracle my wife is still married to me! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 04:04, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- The first names I suggested (Ian and Conlan) appear to fit these requirements, but I need to know the middle names of your current two sons to avoid duplication when I suggest middle names (one is Ryan, the other is?).--MiamiVolts (talk) 08:55, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- Griffin Graham (after my brother who died three days before Griffin was born). We actually both kind of like Conlan, but I have to let it sit with me for awhile. Of course, this will all be so much easier if it's a girl, because then the name is already determined. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:41, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- If you go with Conlan, then I suggest that you use your wife's name for your son's middle name: Rutherford (English for from the cattle ford) is the masculine form of Ruth, and is the name of a former President and a city in NJ. Since your name went for one son's middle name, and another relative's name was used for the other son's middle name, it's only fair your wife's name gets used for the next one's middle name. If you choose Ian as first name, any R middle name makes I.R.S. so I would would instead suggest a P name, like Paul or Peter (names of Jesus's disciples).--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:39, 29 December 2007 (EST)
- My wife has been a fan of Ian for awhile, but it's not my favorite. She really likes Conlan, but if we go with that, I'd rather it be Colin. In any case, I'll have to wait until we find out the gender until I can think really seriously about it. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:48, 30 December 2007 (EST)
- What did your wife think of using the masculine form of her name as your son's middle name? Also, 'Conlin' is okay, but make sure you don't sign the birth certificate with 'Colin'--which is pronounced the same as the word 'colon' describing part of the rectum and would not be o.k.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:31, 30 December 2007 (EST)
- You know me so well! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:30, 31 December 2007 (EST)
- Please be clearer. Your wife thought the male version of her name as the middle name was a good idea? That 'Colin' is not o.k.? Or both?--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:42, 1 January 2008 (EST)

- FYI my initials are BAS and the wedlock issue has never come up with my initials, so you're safe. :) It does give me something interesting to say, however, when someone says, "That's total B.S." (Admin 10:02, 29 December 2007 (EST))

Update?
Boy? Girl? What are the finalists for the boy's name?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:09, 15 January 2008 (EST)
- I'll let you know when I find out. :) We should have a sonogram appointment sometime in February. We haven't narrowed down our list of boy names--I can't quite bring myself to do it until I know the gender...-- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 05:51, 15 January 2008 (EST)
- Check this space on February 7... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:15, 19 January 2008 (EST)
- His name is Oscar Elijah Stewart. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:10, 19 February 2008 (EST)

- Total BS! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:13, 19 February 2008 (EST)
- That's true, but I may have mentioned before that after almost 29 years I don't think anyone has made the connection except when I make it for them. :) So there's nothing to lose and it would give your son a good conversation piece. :) (Admin 00:33, 19 February 2008 (EST))
- Well, at the rate I'm going, it looks like if I have any more kids, they'll definitely be boys! I just might take you up on that name one day. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:36, 19 February 2008 (EST)

- According to babynames.com, Oscar is Irish for deer lover, though I know the name best from Sesame Street (Oscar the Grouch), Academy Awards (a.k.a. the Oscars) and the prize fighter (Oscar de la Hoya)...in case you're thinking the prize fighter, you might want to know that it's currently in question as to whether he's a cross dresser (read here for details). I'm actually surprised you went with "Oscar" due to the tease factor, but I understand it must have been hard to pick a name and Oscar is a rather common one so it could be alright. Anyways, congrats on the decision.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:48, 19 February 2008 (EST)
- It's definitely fitting that in the same week as you decide on a name that means "deer lover", we are given a graphic novel with a deer in it. ;)--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:58, 19 February 2008 (EST)

IT'S A BOY!
No, we haven't settled on a name yet. That will be this weekend's argument discussion. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:08, 13 February 2008 (EST)
- As if two boys isn't enough. Hehe. ;) --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 15:28, 13 February 2008 (EST)
- Congrats on yet another boy, sympathies if you and your wife were hoping for a girl, but I'm sure you will do your children well.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:41, 13 February 2008 (EST)
- Thanks. We weren't really hoping for either (though I think my wife is convinced we're going to keep trying until we can decorate a room with pink), and we're both very excited about another boy. I mean, hey, we have all the clothes and accouterments already, right? But with all that testosterone in the house, my mom said it reminds her of a show she used to watch. I told her it reminds me more of a show I used to watch. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:02, 13 February 2008 (EST)
- I always thought it was fun when a particular parent would always have a specific gender for their children. Congrats!--Bob (talk) 16:01, 13 February 2008 (EST)
- My sister (who has a boy and a girl) said the same thing. I totally agree with you, Bob--there's just something about all the kids being one gender. You know we planned it that way, right? :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:03, 13 February 2008 (EST)
- It took my parents five tries to get a girl, then they had two more boys after that. I have an aunt and uncle who had five girls then one boy. -Lөvөl 16:42, 13 February 2008 (EST)

- Thanks! We just hit the halfway point. Now I'll have to get my scanner working so I can update the Doppler Radar image. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:39, 13 February 2008 (EST)
Name deciding
I'm sure it's a tough thing to decide a childs name, but remember, you can't really 'preselect' the name. When it's born, you'll known then whether the name fits the kid.
Also, just putting 'Jack Stewart' out there. - Saint 17:11, 20 March 2008 (EST)
- Thanks. I like the name Jack, but that's his cousin's name, and his cousin is only a few months older than he is. :) We're going with Oscar Elijah Stewart. Of course, if we see the kid and he just doesn't look like an Oscar, then it's back to the drawing board. But we're pretty settled on Oscar now. Thanks! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:23, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
- I like Elijah as a middle name. Cool deal.--Bob (talk) 14:14, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
- I don't like the name Oscar (no offense, Ryan). Although I'm sure it'll be very funny if he ever becomes an actor. :) --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 14:17, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
- Thanks, Bob. We thought it just sounded "right" with Oscar. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:55, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

Blue boy

Oscar came off the bilirubin lights today, but he'll be in the NICU for at least seven days more. :( I had to laugh, though, because my wife and I both think he looked a bit like Matt in the medical facility! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:19, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
- Isn't it great, though, how well equipped hospitals are now for premature/ill infants. Maybe they existed when I was born (I was actually almost a month late), but I hadn't really heard of them until relatively lately. (Admin 02:07, 7 June 2008 (EDT))
- Amazing. We were really lucky with our first two, who were born five and six weeks early. (A month late--your poor mother!) It's amazing to see these other babies in the NICU, and I can't help but think how lucky they are to be born in an age when there is so much technology that can help save their lives. Much of this stuff didn't exist at all when we were born....On another note, three people asked me about the Heroes Wiki shirt that I was wearing today. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:13, 7 June 2008 (EDT)
