Assuming Adam was teleported from the future back in time and had his memory wiped by the Haitian. - Mr. Muggles is a shapeshifter and only looks like a dog. • If you're referring to Darwin's theory that animal brains are just simpler forms of humans, that's been scientifically disproved for a while now, as has the theory of evolution in general. - Unless Mr. Muggles shapeshifted into Adam, then this isn't possible.
