* The sibilant exception only occurs when a word's penultimate syllable is also a sibilant (meaning the possessive would result in a triple sibilant), not merely when a word ends in a single sibilant. Interview

  • Hey Ryan, I want to ask you something. Could I interview the creator of Zeroes and post the interview on the Zeroes page? Of course I would tell him about Heroeswiki first and let him on insite before the interviewing? What do you think?
    • It sounds like a fantastic idea. Any Heroes Wiki mention would be really nice, but not required, of course. Let me know if I can help in any way. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:17, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

Episode:EpisodeTitle

Hey Ryan, I don't understand I've red links on the Special:Wantedpages for each episode, red links looks like this [[Episode:Gensesis]](1 link), or 2 sometimes... but when I click to check out where the damn red link is, I get the 1342334234 pages that actually link to this VALID link. So wtf ? I don't get it.. -- FrenchFlo (talk)        15:52, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

  • All the episode pages were recently changed so that Episode: is now a valid namespace (much like Category: or Template:). It could be that your cache needs to be flushed. Depending on your browser, you'll want to type F5 or shift-F5, or whatever you do to refresh. Try that and let me know if it fixes the problem. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:15, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
  • Hm, mine's showing it too. Just cleaned the cache too, still there. I click on the red link, and it shows the text of the article as if I just clicked the edit link (which, in theory, is a red link). Something wrong with the server?--Bob 17:17, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
    • Yeah it doesn't work and I knew it won't since I didn't have thoose red links yesterday or this morning maybe. -- FrenchFlo (talk)        17:18, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
  • Someone swapped in the test.heroeswiki.com domain this morning for the home page and several templates. Someone with admin perms should check the server-side code for the special page to make sure it's not still in there. It's not editable or viewable by us normal folk.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:35, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
    • Okay, I'm here now. I'm not showing any problems on special:wantedpages. I'd be glad to check the server-side code, but I'm not exactly sure how. If somebody wants to guide me through it, that'd be great. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:01, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
      • After now reading the help, I see that special pages are updated automatically by the wiki software, so now I don't think we have to mess with it (in fact, all the bad links are gone now). FWIW, special pages appear to be just protected pages. You can read more help on them here and more about how to unrestrict access to edit them/add new ones here. Essentially, it looks like you have to view/edit LocalSettings.php on the server.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:33, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
        • I'm not sure how you saw test.heroeswiki.com, MiamiVolts, unless perhaps you went there manually at some point or someone had a link here you clicked on? I was working on the test site today, but haven't touched the production site so there shouldn't have been any problems. (Admin 23:36, 2 May 2007 (EDT))
          • Actually, it may be because I didnt define the new custom namespaces within the test site. Doh! Then when the test site went checking for wantedpages it couldn't find the Episode articles. Sounds like a possibility there. (Admin 23:38, 2 May 2007 (EDT))
            • That was most likely it. The Main_Page of the normal site had all its links pointed to the test site but there were no articles. Thus, the test site's special:wantedpages article had a whole lot of bad links that somehow carried over to the normal site when changed back. It's fixed now, though.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:46, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

New Article Buttons

  • Can you give me a run-down on setting these up? (I know I did the welcome button, but I'm brainfarting). I'd like to add some more, specifically for things we already have layout templates for.--Hardvice (talk) 22:58, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
    • Check out MediaWiki:Newarticletext. All the fun stuff's in there. (Admin 23:32, 2 May 2007 (EDT))
    • Sure. That's one of my summer projects, but I'd love it if you wanted to add some now.
      1. Go to MediaWiki:Newarticletext.
      2. Copy one of the buttons and add it where you want. Make sure you change the name that appears on the button (which is located last) and the template you want preloaded (which is after preload, of course). For instance, if you want to add a button for references, make sure the button says "reference" and the template is something like Template:Newpage_Reference.
      3. That's basically it for Newarticletext. Now start the template you referenced. For instance, Template:Newpage_Reference.
      4. This is the hardest part. On the template, add all the layout stuff as needed. Unfortunately you can't add too much code to the page since it will preload exactly as you type. In fact, the only thing I've been successful in adding is the <includeonly> tags. And really you should add these tags at the very beginning and end of the template so that any categories you have on the page aren't attributed to the template.
    • That's it, really. Just a note about adding the layout for the Template:newpage_whatever: I also made simple directions (Template:Newpage_directions) which appear at the top of the new page that is being edited. They basically say that anything in all caps should be deleted. I've been following the format you've used on help:layout--CAPS are for notes to the user....Hope that helps. Let me know if you have a more specific question. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:02, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

Ding!

  • You've got mail! (Admin 00:06, 3 May 2007 (EDT))

Sylar's Unknown Power

  • im just curious, did you take off the whole "is it radioactivity or is it pyrokenesis" thing on sylar (future)'s page?--Pred 0212 18:46, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
    • I'm not quite sure what you mean. I just went through the entire history for Sylar (future) and I never saw any kind of radioactivity/pyrokinesis debate. I saw that somebody had put James Walker as the originator of cryokinesis (which is preposterous) and that somebody else removed it (which is commendable), but I didn't see anything related to what you're talking about either in the discussion page or the main article space. There is, however, a good discussion about whether Future Peter has induced radioactivity or pyrokinesis over here. Is that what you're looking for? In either case, I didn't take anything off. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:18, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
    • oh....so it was under the peter petrelli (future) article. lol i guess i didnt remember where it was, i was trying to find it to show a friend and i just assumed it was under future sylar's...yea i fail. i wasnt accusing you just wondering what happened haha thx :)--Pred 0212 01:32, 4 May 2007 (EDT)

Additional Fun with Sibilants

  • The sibilant exception only occurs when a word's penultimate syllable is also a sibilant (meaning the possessive would result in a triple sibilant), not merely when a word ends in a single sibilant. "Belonging to Trunks" is always "Trunks's"; "Belonging to Isis" can be either "Isis's" or (more frequently) "Isis'".--Hardvice (talk) 02:35, 5 May 2007 (EDT)
