The heart is a pear shaped, muscular organ, responsible for pumping blood through the blood vessels by repeated, rhythmic contractions.

The heart has also been long used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral, and in the past also intellectual core of a human being.

About

Genesis

In Mohinder's voice-over at the beginning of the episode, he says that it is not the human heart to not look into life's mysteries and questions.

In his voice-over at the end of the episode, he asks why the need to solve life's mysteries matters when the human heart can only find meaning in the smallest of moments.

Don't Look Back

After Peter wakes up in the hospital bed, Angela tells him that his father didn't die of a heart attack, he died because he committed suicide.

Niki finds a heart-shaped note on the back of the registration of the Cadillac convertible, telling her to check the trunk and follow the map.

Collision

While Peter and Mohinder are in the subway, there is a poster behind them with the words "Don't give your heart to just anyone."

Better Halves

Hank tells Claire that all she has to worry from his side of the family is a history of cancer and heart disease.

Homecoming

In Mohinder's dream, he sees his father say that Darwin said a scientific man ought to have no wishes, no affections, a heart of stone. He later realizes that Chandra had a heart of stone because of Shanti.

Six Months Ago

Chandra Suresh tells Gabriel Gray that the brain controls every emotion and every heartbeat.

Nathan informs Peter that his father died of a heart attack.

Godsend

As Peter lies in the hospital bed, Nathan tells Simone that the doctors don't know how much more his heart can take.

Angela worries that Peter will die of a heart attack.

The Fix

Hiro tells his abductor "You cannot bribe a hero. My heart is true. My spirit unbreakable."

Unexpected

After Sylar and Mohinder meet Dale, she explains that since she is able to control her ability, she can hear even the tiniest changes in a heartbeat. She turns to Sylar and points out that his heart is beating pretty quickly and asks if he's nervous.

Sylar silently enters Dale's shop and Dale tells him that she didn't hear any footsteps. Sylar replies that there weren't any. Dale asks him what that sound in his heart was.

Hana wanted to be considered for the para-troopers, but her request is denied by an IDF enlisting officer. He tells her that the army has grave concerns about her heart. Hana assures him that her heart is fine. The officer tells her that she cannot be trusted in the trenches because the enemies can hear her heart beating and that it yearns for vengeance.

Later in the graphic novel, she says that the rules of engagement state to shoot on sight, but the rules didn't account for her heart.
