Talk:Claude Rains
This is definitely premature. We should probably wait until the character premieres. At the very least, we should put it in the spoilers category and not the character category for now. All information on other character pages has already been confirmed on-screen.--Hardvice (talk) 00:37, 30 November 2006 (EST)
- Fair enough. Figured since this was with TV Guide it will be pretty widely desemenated quickly... Not sure how to remove a page and/or hide it until the appropriate time.
Seeing how Claude is surprised to meet another person who can see him (his first meeting with Peter) takes me back to an idea I had after the second episode: that the parents of our heroes were subjected to an experiment of some kind that triggered the original genetic anomoly that gives them the abilities and then that anomoly gets carried down when they reproduce - making our curent heroes 2nd Generation, and Micah 3rd Generation.Yoshie (talk) 10:30, 29 December 2006 (EST)
Invisibility - hooray!
How cool is invisibility! Really looking forward to this after the break! - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:51, 30 November 2006 (EST)
- How cool is Christopher Eccleston? I'm not even much of a Dr. Who fan, but he's definitely an awesome catch for the show!--Hardvice (talk) 00:53, 30 November 2006 (EST)
- Agree... I mean I, like, had nothing to look forward to before, but now ... hehehe ... - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:00, 30 November 2006 (EST)
- He's an invisible man, what do you mean the article needs pictures? :) --Orne 17:15, 6 December 2006 (EST)
- So what is he? From the way the producers are talking, I'm guessing he's a Supporting Character.--Hardvice (talk) 02:42, 23 January 2007 (EST)
- Yeah, why not. Even if he's only on 2 episodes (which is unlikely, since he'll be on a A flashback episode slated for late February (woo hoo!)) he's already been talked about more than many of the recurring characters. I say supporting is fine. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:48, 23 January 2007 (EST)
Claude's Power
- Going by the listed powers in Surresh's files, Claude's power should not be labled as invisibility, but "dynamic camouflage". - Anomy 01:02, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- Gotta say, I like it! --Fcphantom 01:01, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- We have no idea if that refers to the same power or not. It probably does, but at this point it's just speculation.--Hardvice (talk) 01:37, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- Agree, I'm not sure dynamic camouflage and invisibility are the same thing. Kind of like precognition and clairvoyance are different. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:59, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- Agreed. Dynamic camouflage could be something entirely different, like a human chameleon. For example, someone could hide by standing against a wall and change his or her appearance to blend in. --ZyberGoat 18:15, 31 January 2007 (EST)
Claude Rains
Everyone knows this is an alias, right?--Hardvice (talk) 01:37, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- I agree. It seems during the episode that he is not referring to himself but to Claude Raines, who played the Invisible Man on film. Perhaps we should revert back to Claude until we are absolutely sure of his last name. Disney42 01:39, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- Is it? I figured either "Claude" took on the name in homage to the original actor... OR it's a joke by the writers and his name really IS Claude Rains. Have they said for certain yet? We do know his name is "Claude" or at least the writers are calling him that, so it's possible that his name is actually Claude Rains... or that he's using that as an alias. I think, like Eden McCain, we call him Claude Rains until we're given a different name. Though if we want to revert back to just Claude there's no harm in doing so of course. (Admin 01:42, 30 January 2007 (EST))
- I don't think we need to revert back ... he's definitely calling himself that. But the interview with Chris Eccleston (and his performance of the line) seem to indicate that he was being sarcastic in calling himself "Claude Rains".--Hardvice (talk) 01:52, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- Christopher Eccleston? Sarcastic? But he was never sarcastic as Dr. Who! Oh...wait... "Would you mind not farting while I'm trying to save the world?" (Admin 01:55, 30 January 2007 (EST))

- In an interview (I'm not going to locate it now, but it may have been the latest CBR interview - oh, and definitely an EW article) they said they named him in homage of Claude Rains. I say keep it. Real or not, he's going by it. - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:59, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- It could also be spelled as Raines
~ ~ ~ ~ Red = 23:25, 2 February 2007 (EST)- Well, since it's an homage to the actor, we should probably spell it the way he spells it. (See the Entertainment Weekly article.) — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:46, 2 February 2007 (EST)
Rains isn't his last name HeroSite.net: Interview with Christopher Eccelston:
HS: Do you know if the writers intended any significance to the name "Claude," because of the name of the first actor to play an invisible man?
CE: The first time I appear as Claude, I make a joke about that, so it is a homage, I think, to Claude Raines.
HS: Does Claude have a last name?
CE: I don't know, no.
15 Years?
Has Claude had his powers for fifteen years, or has he had his powers for at least fifteen years? (Meaning that he was invisible for fifteen, but really had the powers for longer than that period of time.) Kail Ceannai 00:53, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Someone Tell Bennet
If Claude Raines isn't the character's real name, someone needs to tell Mister Bennet, cuz he did refer to Claude by his first alleged name. In the episode Unexpected, he said to the Haitian, "Claude can wait. We're heading home." So that means he was going by Claude back when Bennet knew him - fifteen years ago. If nothing more than as a nickname. -- ZachsMind 02:09, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Claude knew what he was getting involved in
- In Unexpected, after Peter escapes from Bennet and the Haitian and brings Claude to his apartment, Claude was angry at Peter because he inadvertently led the Company to them. But now we have seen Company Man, and we know that Claude used to be friends with Mr. Bennet and knew who Claire was. Going back to Unexpected, when Peter used telekinesis to shatter the pole Claude was beating him with, Claude asked him who he knew had that ability. Peter, when referring to Sylar, specifically said, "that guy who was chasing Claire in Texas. Claude himself knew a Claire from Texas who had an ability (though at the time of Company Man's flashbacks, she hadn't manifested one yet). Shouldn't Claude have known what he was getting involved in after realizing that Peter encountered Claire (which in turn would most likely have meant that he encountered Bennet as well, which happened in Fallout)? FlyingMan 14:14, 2 March 2007 (EST)
- Good points, but there's a lot of speculation there. For instance, Claire's name is never mentioned in the 1992 flashbacks; in Hell's Angel, Mr. Bennet calls the baby "Claire", but it's kind of to himself. In other words, maybe her name wasn't Claire until later. But even if Claude knew Claire's name, it's been 15 years. In 2022, if someone says something like, "Oh, my friend Ryan from Pennsylvania," you wouldn't necessarily automaticaly think of me. And even if Claude did think of Claire, Bennet was supposed to give her up to the Company, so Claude wouldn't've necessarily assumed that Peter met Mr. Bennet.... Good thinking though! — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:31, 2 March 2007 (EST)
- Actually in the flashback on The Bridge, when Bennet was asking him who he was hiding Claude said "what if it was Claire?". But anyway, I understand what you mean. I guess it's possible he might've assumed Peter was referring to someone else. FlyingMan 14:35, 2 March 2007 (EST)
Claude's name
As far as we know, Claude Rains is his name. Of course, it is a reference to The Invisible Man, but assuming that it's not his name is speculation. We don't know if it's Claude who adopts the name in honor of the actor, or if it's the writers of the show who are paying homage. It might be an alias, but we don't know that for sure. We know he's been using the name (whether it's his birth name or not) for at least 15 years. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:16, 8 March 2007 (EST)
- How do you know its his name? It would be stupid to give him that last name since most adults who know what it was and think it silly. They've only called him just "Claude" on the show. IceHunter 21:40, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
"Look -- I saw you. I saw you in my dream. Who are you?"
"Me? I'm no one. I'm the Invisible Man. I'm Claude Rains. Now get away from me. Forget you ever saw me."
There ya go.--Ice Vision 21:46, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
