Sendhil Ramamurthy is the American film and television actor who plays Mohinder Suresh.
About
Sendhil's family comes from India, and his ethnicity plays an important part in his life, and in his acting career. Though Heroes was his first major role, Sendhil has also made appearances in a number of different television series, including, Psych, Grey's Anatomy, and Numb3rs. He has acted on stage as well.
His role on Heroes also helped launch his film career. As well as starring in the upcoming British romantic comedy, It's a Wonderful Afterlife, he has also signed on to do his first Bollywood film.
Because of his hectic shooting schedule, Sendhil was unable to reprise the role of Mohinder Suresh until the seventh episode of Season Four and had to withdraw from the show after episode fifteen.
Sendhil has been cast in USA's upcoming spy/drama Covert Affairs, where he will play a CIA agent named "Jai Wilcox". The show is set to premiere in July.
Sendhil has appeared alongside Jayma Mays, Ossie Mair, and Stephen Tobolowsky in Blind Dating.
Trivia
- Sendhil Ramamurthy is married to Olga Sosnovska. They have a daughter named Halina and a son named Alex who is two years younger.
- Following in his parents' footsteps, Sendhil was going to go to medical school. However, after participating in a college play as a requirement, he fell in love with acting and decided to change career goals.
- Sendhil has made a conscious to refrain from accepting so-called stereotypical Indian roles, though those were the majority of the roles that he was being offered before his role on Heroes. Because of this, he was going to go to business school and give up on acting altogether, until he received the role of Mohinder.
- In an interview, casting director Jason La Padura said the part of Mohinder was originally conceived to be a much older character. However, because Sendhil has "this beautiful voice and he's beautiful to look at" and "he seems like he belongs on TV", the producers decided to change the concept of the character so they could cast Sendhil in the role.
- In an interview on the December 4, 2006, episode of The Megan Mullally Show, Sendhil said, "All the kids used to call me 'Sandal'." Greg Grunberg then revealed that Sendhil's on-set nickname on Heroes is "flip-flop".
