Revision as of 09:56, 18 March 2009
To "take something with a grain of salt" is to view something with some skepticism.
With regards to the imagery and effects used in Heroes to depict abilities in various media, one must do this. This is because there are differences in the capabilities of mediums of the episode and the webisode (through the effects crew) and the graphic novel (through artists and colorists) to depict the a given ability. Additionally, there are inherent differences in the artistic style of the afore mentioned Graphic novel artists and colorists. Further still, members of the effects crew may impart their own spin on the depiction of an ability.
Ability supercharging
-
...while the show depicts it as pinkish-red energy. (Dual)
Freezing
-
On air, both Sylar's (The Hard Part)...
-
...and Tracy's use of Freezing (Dying of the Light) require touch to remove heat and cause the cold associated with the ability.
-
But, before the on air debut of the ability, it first debuted in the graphic novel Road Kill. Artist Jason Badower commented at his blog that he (and, by extension, his colorist Annette Kwok) had to perform some interpretation on how the ability would look and how it would work.
Induced radioactivity
-
In graphic novels, induced radioactivity has been depicted as yellowish...
-
...and green by the Kotzebue brothers and Mark Roslan... (How Do You Stop an Exploding Man?, Part 2)
-
In episodes, the same ability has been depicted as reddish-orange,... (Godsend)
-
...blueish... (.07%)
-
...golden... (Landslide)
-
...and white. (Powerless)
Pyrokinesis
Is the smoke something unique to Iris, or did the production unit for the webisodes put smoke there that wasnt supposed to be there?
Sound manipulation
Echo's version
-
The Going Postal webisode set depicts Echo's sound manipulation with vivid golden colored circles...
-
...but in the corresponding graphic novel of the same name, circles of more subtle greens,...
-
...browns...
-
...white...
-
...and wispy elements are used by artist Marcus To and colorist Peter Steigerwald.
Jesse's version
-
In One of Us, One of Them, however, the ability is depicted with barely visible wavy distortions of the air when Peter uses it while in Jesse's body...
-
...and the ability is depicted as blue spirals by Alitha Martinez and Chris Sotomayor when Jesse uses it in The Sting of Injustice.
Telekinesis
-
Telekinesis in episodes...(.07%)
-
...and Jason Badower & Annette Kwok (Road Kill) all show the objects manipulated simply floating where they are desired.
-
But in Libertad by Marcus To and Brian Buccellato, Misha's eyes were depicted blue and a blue aura was placed on the objects he manipulated when he used TK.
Teleportation
Manuel's version
-
Manuel Garcia's usage of this ability is depicted as simply fading from view. (Into the Wild, Part 3)
Rachel's version
-
Teleportation, as depicted in the webisodes set The Recruit...
-
...as well as the graphic novel Hanging By a Thread by Micah Gunnell and John Star, causes a flash of white light to appear as the user teleports...
-
...but in Puppet with No Strings by Greg Beeman and Marcus To, the ability is depicted as causing a flash of lime-colored light to appear.
