****As long as we have links to the different portals in the See Also section (i.e., a link to [[Portal:Season One Characters]]), I think we're fine in keeping just the most current season in the navbar. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 11:42, 16 October 2007 (EDT) |

Sylar
- Should Sylar be moved to the supporting characters section? He's a main plot point, but not really a main character. I would argue that Eden and Ando have much more screen time than Sylar. Another arguement would be that the main characters should be the actors credited as regulars on the series. --Fcphantom 17:54, 9 November 2006 (EST)
- Good question. He's certainly a pivotal character, and from preview information of future episodes, he will be appearing in the Homecoming episode. Beyond that, like Mr. Linderman, his not being there is what drives the story, and he is not credited in the show's prime credits. I'm fine with moving him to the right side of the navigation window, but perhaps as the first in order. --Orne 18:46, 9 November 2006 (EST)
Future Characters
Personally I think the future characters should not be included on here as a list. It should be a link at the bottom, just like the Minor Characters. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:56, 1 May 2007 (EDT)
- I think you're right. It would be better, especially since we'd be unlikely to see these future versions of the characters if and when they stop the explosion, as that future would cease to exist. Joser Kyind 00:03, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
- Perhaps this list of characters should be called Dark Future characters, as in the characters only seen in the timelines where the explosion and the Linderman Act, to leave room for other possible futures? Alexwill 18:42, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks Ryan, for helping add that future variable. ---- ![]()

- Yeah, no problem. I'd just done it on template:crewnav, so it was fairly easy. Great idea, Ohmyn0. — RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:47, 17 May 2007 (EDT)
Season Two
I have made two test Characternavs to add Season Two characters: User:Level/Characternav and User:Level/Characternav2. Baldbobbo also made one: User:Baldbobbo/Template:Characternav. Would any of these work? And does anyone have any suggestions? -Lөvөl 16:46, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
- Mind explaining the differences to us? I can't tell from just glancing at it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:56, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
- Bob's just adds Season templates, mine also add animals, unaired characters and context based see also links. User:Level/Characternav has templates for main, suporting, etc., User:Level/Characternav2 has one template for each Season. -Lөvөl 18:01, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
- Both Level's Characternav and Characternav2 have season1 and season2 options. I don't see the difference. Anyways, I like it better with the Animals in it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:06, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
- Personally, I'd prefer just to continually update the template we have. From what I can tell, the templates you guys made (which are very cool, indeed) would require a lot of edits to existing characters, and might require a lot of maintenance, too. Since we have soooo many characters, and they all have the exact same link at the bottom of the page, I'd much rather just make updates here, rather than trying to fiddle with a bunch of variables. (We took a different route with template:crewnav because there were some crew members who had multiple hats to wear, and multiple small bars looks cumbersome, and one big bar was unnecessarily huge.) Next week, I'd much rather just move Sylar and Ando up to main characters, and then move others around as they either appear more or appear less. In the case of Isaac, DL, and other former main characters, I wouldn't be opposed to making a "Former Main Characters" portal/section, or something like that, but for now, I'd rather just move those guys down a notch. I just envision that being a lot simpler, a lot easier to maintain and manage, and a lot less work. KISS. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:51, 18 September 2007 (EDT)
- With User:Level/Characternav2 you will now not need to update old characters. -Lөvөl 02:00, 19 September 2007 (EDT)
Sanjog?
Is he really a recurring character? He seems out of place, as all the other supporting characters are more important and appeared in more episodes. --Cylon 17:38, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
- Well he does play a key role. If not for him, Mohinder probably would of never wanted to return to America. He would never have found out about Shanti either. Also he is an evolved human. Jason Garrick 15:49, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
- Similar things could be said about Brian Davis, James Walker, Paulette Hawkins, Mohinder's mother, Miss Sakamoto and many other minor characters. Even though Sanjog was originally included as a recurring character, I think his role ended up being less than some of us imagined. He was really one of the first evolved humans whose story was not fleshed out. I'm thinking of moving him to be a minor character. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:24, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
Mish-mash
- This template is now a mish-mash of season one and season two characters. Alejandro and Maya aren't even on it, and Monica is even though she hasn't appeared yet. We ought to just go ahead and implement User:Level's version, which we've been keeping up to date, rather than revising this one, which is fine on Season One characters as-is until they can be converted.--Hardvice (talk) 20:29, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
- I've updated to Level's version, which allows different navbars for different seasons, and optional navbars for future, unaired, and animal characters. I made it backwards-compatible so we don't have to edit non-future, non-animal, non-unaired Season One Characters. I updated the Season Two main characters if you want to see it in action. We just need to add
|season=twoto the rest of the season two characters and they'll be up to date.--Hardvice (talk) 21:25, 4 October 2007 (EDT)- Season Two Main, Supporting, and Recurring are done. Season Two Minors, and Future, Unaired, and Animals need to be updated.--Hardvice (talk) 21:50, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
- Okay. Everybody should be good. Now, if a season one character appears in season two, all we need to do is add them to template:characterseason2 and add
|season=2to {{characternav}} on their page.--Hardvice (talk) 22:20, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

Is it possible to make the default for characternav to be the latest season (in this case, season two)? --Bob 15:36, 9 October 2007 (EDT)
- Only if we want to update all nine billion season one character pages to have |season=1.--Hardvice (talk) 15:41, 9 October 2007 (EDT)
- Yes, but then we would have to go back and edit all the old characters. Someone could make it so "|season=2" is set in the new page template though. -Lөvөl 15:45, 9 October 2007 (EDT)
Character templates
I'm sorry if this is not the correct place to put this, but I have an idea. What if, we have the templates for both the first season and the second season on characters that have appeared in both? And, obviously, only one for characters that have appeared in one. This allows people to see how characters have evolved in importance. Comment on my talk page. Once again, I apologise, but I don't know where else to put this --Conspiracy Unit 02:00, 12 October 2007 (EDT)
- Just imagine how huge the navbar would be for, say, Peter Petrelli by Season 4. The current-season-only approach 1) matches the portals, 2) leaves room for future growth, and 3) makes sure it stays wider than it is tall.--Hardvice (talk) 02:08, 12 October 2007 (EDT)
